I have been working at North Carolina State University part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

If you are willing to learn, there are myriad opportunities at NC State University. One thing I learnt in my experience is REACH OUT to people, they are always looking for someone who can help.

    Cons

I did not feel anything specifically I can relate as a con.

    Advice to Management

    You're awesome

I have been working at North Carolina State University part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Can be convenient to work on campus. Close proximity. I imagine more flexibility in hours than an off campus job.

    Cons

Can feel exploiting at times. Highly unorganized. Superiors can be difficult to deal with and set in their ways. Slow to implement useful change.

    Advice to Management

Value workers more. Instead of adding more and more policies for mistakes people make, try to actually train new hires so they know how to do their job correctly.

I have been working at North Carolina State University full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

You learn a lot because the PI's are crappy and never around to help you when need them.

    Cons

Horrible, awful PI's get to sit at home on their behinds and not show up for work for days at a time. They don't answer e-mails. They don't help you when you need it. Worst of all, they talk to you like you're a complete idiot. This is not just one PI either....it's the whole 4th floor Thomas Hall department.

    Advice to Management

Please seriously look at the people you are offering tenure. Are they working hard to just get tenure or are they actually good teachers? PhD candidates get terrible pay to be their PI's slaves for years on end, and then the PI's drag their feet helping their students graduate. This is not just limited to a few PI's. It is a theme that should be investigated or you will continue to see low enrollment.
