I worked at North Kansas City Hospital full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great place to work with lots of outstanding co-workers. Management really seemed to care about their employees. CEO has a town meeting to hear from employees

    Cons

Very busy hospital so be ready for a challenge

I worked at North Kansas City Hospital full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Hourly wages were nice. Bonuses available. Benefits were fantastic.

    Cons

There was no teamwork. Most of the other night CNAs were rude or lazy. Favoritism was a big factor. I felt like my voice couldn't be heard when I had an issue. Manager, who is still there, was the worst manager I have ever had. She micromanaged the good workers and turned a blind eye to the lazy workers. She was the reason I left the hospital. If you got on her bad side she made it impossible to transfer to another unit or pursue other career opportunities at NKCH. The turn over rate was ridiculous. Constantly understaffed. Patients were not split evenly. Overworked and under appreciated. Manager was rude, does not care about her employees at all.

    Advice to Management

My advice to upper management would be to remove the current manager of the 11th floor Renal/Tele from her position, or at the very least enroll her in several classes on how to be a true leader and work on her communication skills and develop compassion which she is very seriously lacking.

    Pros

Lots of good people to work with, many were exceptional. Generally friendly atmosphere, clean environment. Probably the best hospital cafeteria around.

    Cons

A few people could really make life hard for others. Certain departments acted as though they were autonomous from the rest of the hospital and expected everyone else to do things their way.

    Advice to Management

Some areas really need a firmer hand at the tiller. Other than that, I feel that management in general was doing a pretty good job.

    Pros

Staff are wonderful, knowledgeable and work well together. Bonus money available

    Cons

Your Xmas bonus is 3 movie tickets.no money
They have a point system so if u r 1 min. Late u get one. 8 pts and u r gone!
No recognition. Not enough staff, high ratios!!! I had 17 patients all on my own at 1 time, was told not to give baths.

    Advice to Management

All administration need to be aware that most of the employees do not approve of them. It's gone downhill over the past 18 years I have worked there.

I have been working at North Kansas City Hospital (Less than a year)

    Pros

I have worked at North Kansas City Hospital for six years, this facility has been nurturing and supportive. I have been encouraged from the day I was hired to continue my education and to be involved with unit and hospital initiatives. NKCH as an organization has a heart, they care about patient safety and improving staffing. I feel the administration strives to create a healthy happy work environment and a culture of respect for all staff.

    Cons

As most facilities experience turnover and short staffing issues, NKCH is no different. At times staffing levels dip as the census rises. This organization does need to improve staff diversity, it is a disadvantage to have very little diversity among staff staff.
