Great team, terrible upper management
Jul 22, 2022 - Speech Language Pathologist in Hammond, LARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
It’s a good place to learn for a new SLP. Since North Oaks is a stroke-certified center and a level II trauma hospital, the patient caseload is very diverse and interesting. The therapy staff and other clinical staff are great. There is wonderful inter-professional collaboration.
Cons
The hospital is chronically under- staffed and those that don’t leave are severely overworked and under-appreciated. When employees ask for more staff, better resources, and better pay, they are told to come up with “budget neutral” solutions. The hospital can afford to pay contract nurses and spend millions of dollars to renovate the front door (that didn’t need renovating), but can’t find it in the budget to adequately staff the place. Upper management is tone deaf and even when good solutions are brought forth, it’s an exercise in futility. There’s also a strict attendance policy that penalizes you for using the PTO that YOU EARNED if you have to call off or come in late.

Pros
Very well rounded experience. Lots of opportunities to practices many facets of audiology
Cons
Currently needs more audiologists. Hospital supports this, but difficult to lure audiologists to this small town. However, Hammond is a great college town and an easy 25 minute commute from St Tammany Parish.
