Local Plant Managers need to respect employees as humans and not numbers.

    Advice to Management

Get off your "high horse" and lead by example.

I worked at North Pacific Seafoods full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Generally, working in the Alaska seafood industry offers more time off than other industries due to the demands of long hours while in Alaska.

    Cons

Unfortunately, NPSI is dogged by senior managers governed by outmoded management methods.

    Advice to Management

Shed dead weight to become nimble and competitive in the market and to avoid potentially costly complications from management biases.

I worked at North Pacific Seafoods as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Decent food, covered housing and meals. Kitchen works very hard! Plenty of hours for work and possibility of overtime. Plumbing was ancient, though not just company issue. Roommate option is cool.

    Cons

No employee checkup, rude HR workers though new HR for 2016. Safety hazards are numerous and were not changed after 2 consecutive injuries to workers.

    Advice to Management

Exit interviews would be nice, would be great to check up with workers mid-season to see how things are going.. Maybe a 4th of July party as well would be cool.

I worked at North Pacific Seafoods (Less than a year)

    Pros

Makes you appreciate life when you are all finished. You will be a happier more thankful person when it is over. You don't spend money when there and food is provided for.

    Cons

Extremely tough mentally and physically depending on the job and the hourly pay is not great. The bosses tend to be rude and patronizing but I guess it works for them.

    Advice to Management

I would seriously think about the ethics of the low pay. The work is not rocket science but it is extremely mentally and physically exhausting, the pay should at least be 12-13 an hour.

I worked at North Pacific Seafoods full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Awesome support team. Gained great knowledge in seafood arena. Good benefits and insurances and training. Worked in Alaska and beautiful outdoors. Met great people.
TONS of overtime for the taking.

    Cons

You smell like a fish at the end of every day. I takes awhile to come off of you. Some very long hours. Very very hard work if you aren't up to it.

    Advice to Management

Cut unneeded waste by trimming areas of production that can be overlooked. Adjust salaries and pay scale for floor workers.

I worked at North Pacific Seafoods full-time

    Pros

They fly you out to Naknek and arrange all other transportation back. Food and housing is paid for, although very basic and minimum, it is satisfactory.

    Cons

If you work there you can expect very long hours, minimum pay, to be essentially treated like a slave, eat salmon for two months strait, and have to throw out all your clothes from the smell afterwards.

    Advice to Management

i actually enjoyed my experience and would be willing to go back again. If possible it would be nicer to keep people better informed in terms of when shifts are coming, when to expect the season will end ect. but that is the nature of the business, cant control the fish.
