I have been working at Northeast Utilities full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

I have been with this company a number of years. The company is changing after the merger, so you need to be okay with change. Energy and NU are the place to be. Management is doing a great job running a financially response public company looking to reduce cost.

    Cons

Some folks can be slow to change.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing! Driving the new company to a new level of performance!

    Pros

Northeast Utilities Service Company is one of the most friendliest employers out there. From day one everyone makes it seem as if they have known you for ages. Everyone is super friendly. The benefits are good, the facilities are nice and well maintained, employment at the company is secure i.e. no layoffs, and for the most part management is efficient.

    Cons

The utility industry can be quite boring at times. Starting pay is less than most other large corporations. Takes a while to learn some of the archaic computer databases for different activities.

    Advice to Management

    Make more time for staff.

I have been working at Northeast Utilities full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The job has an excellent work life balance. The compensation is not the highest in the industry, but the employees received raises amd bonuses through the recession. The stock has done well over the past years and employees get stock through their 401k and the ESPP. Depending on the manager, employees can set own schedules (within reason) and there is often little required overtime.

    Cons

There is sometimes a lack of communication between management and the workforce. There are limited opportunities for creative freedom. The progression path is slow, but steady. New leadership is making drastic changes towards more outsourcing.
