    Doesn't Recommend

I worked at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

NWTC focuses on the student and helping them succeed. They want to provide their students with the best in higher education. They are also supportive of their instructors, especially when students exhibit behavior problems. The college encourages and support further education of their faculty.

    Cons

While there are positives, there are also some negatives to consider as an adjunct: 1. Pay is low for a college-level instructor and you are only paid for in-class hours. Any work you do outside of class is on your dime, and your time. So, you may be working a total of 30 hours per week, but you will only be paid for your in-class hours. 2. You are only given 1 1/2 to 2 weeks to prep for a semester-long class. Notification...

    Advice to Management

    1. Pay your adjunct faculty for more than in-class work. Provide ten hours per week of pay to cover at least some of the extra work they do from home. Adjuncts work as hard as full-time instructors and do not get the benefits of the work done. This leads to burn out and low morale. Treat your people very well and they will, in turn, treat your students/customers really well. 2. Set up your teaching schedules at least...

    "Unethical compensation rate"

I have been working at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College part-time

    Pros

    Nice people and updated facilities.

    Cons

The rate of pay for adjuncts is the lowest I've ever heard of and the most time-consuming and complex application process. Less pay for a class than most of us would have gotten as graduate students. They clearly depend on adjuncts for essential labor like so many schools, but a truly unethical rate of pay. It's exploitative. I wish I had known this earlier in the process, so want to share with any others before they...

    Advice to Management

Only paying teachers for the time spent in the classroom with students shows a lack of understanding of higher education. The people you hire are required to demonstrate earned advanced degrees and teaching ability, so you clearly recognize the expertise and experience they have. But the pay is insulting and unethical.
