I have been working at Northern Arizona Healthcare full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Excellent benefit package, seems that there may be some changes coming in the near future that look positive.

    Cons

Frequent leadership change, resulting in frequent organizational re-shifting

    Advice to Management

Reduce the amount of initiatives, create a system that communicates and gathers information before taking action.

I worked at Northern Arizona Healthcare full-time

    Pros

Plenty of opportunity to learn and advance your skills. I worked on the IT side of things, so maybe it'll be different for other departments. However, Healthcare IT as a whole is booming, so there's plenty of time to get involved.

    Cons

Long hours at times due to team size. However, you have to weigh what kind of work/life balance you want to have. As I really was only career orientated at my time at NAH I didn't mind getting some more hours here and there.

    Advice to Management

Keep giving all team members the opportunity to grow and encourage learning new things. We only grow as a team if we're given the chance.

I have been working at Northern Arizona Healthcare full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits & Pay are competitive for area.

    Cons

Lots of politics, gossips, poor leadership & middle management could use a boost in communication and interpersonal skills. Favoritism is common among the "lifers".

    Advice to Management

Hire people based on their charisma and ability to be good leaders not based on the "good ol boy" mentality. Too many of your clinical managers have zero interpersonal skills and do not have good relationships with their employees.

I worked at Northern Arizona Healthcare full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great educational opportunities. Fantastic cafeteria. Really nice campus.

    Cons

Reporting offices had a lot of dead weight that was holding a lot of employees back.

    Advice to Management

Really needs to take a hard look at those in middle management for 10+ years to see if they really are an asset to the company

I have been working at Northern Arizona Healthcare (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The hospital is located in a great town, higher salary for the state for many positions, good physicians and coworkers.

    Cons

High turnover for some departments and instability in management. Employee satisfaction low for some areas. The town is not ideal if you're single or are looking to live in/near a city

I have been working at Northern Arizona Healthcare (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Higher pay than most of the state in a state that pays above average. Flagstaff is a beautiful place to live.

    Cons

Poor Management, poor scheduling, healthcare benefit is worse than any hospital I have worked for, recruitment is above average but retention is nonexistent, there is an obvious departure from patient centered healthcare and no community health initiatives. Training is terrible, turnover has been extremely high over the last five years. Management is extremely top heavy keeping any opportunity for advancement from opening up.

    Advice to Management

There needs to be an effort to hold managements feet to the fire. Behavior and practices that have garnered a formal complaint to HR need to be addressed. Retention needs to become a priority both through scheduling, improvement of work environment and benefits. A large culture change needs to occur in order to keep good healthcare workers.

I have been working at Northern Arizona Healthcare full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good co-workers, nice doctor to work for, nice environment where the clinic is located.

    Cons

No permanent director, physicist was assigned as head of therapist is a big mistake, he shows no respect for therapist and no appreciation of all the hard work done.

    Advice to Management

The contracted director is not a good director but we have no choice until his contract is done in 6 months time. They should have picked a better interim director.
