I have been working at Northern Essex Community College (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great students! They really work hard. Most faculty are committed to doing a good job for the college and the students. Many will go the extra mile to be helpful.

    Cons

I used to love it here, but now senior administration is terrible, and top-heavy! Some key administrators are passive/aggressive, and indulge in cronyism, while others have political aspirations which result in making poor decisions. The salaries are low. The work/life balance is way too work heavy for such little compensation.

    Advice to Management

Treat employees better. Be more transparent, less deceitful and finally put an end to the culture of fear that has been prevalent for years.

    Negative Outlook

    Pros

Opportunity for low income population to get an education

    Cons

Imbalance of power, people not qualified placed in positions as favors, some insanely overpaid, and get big merit raises and promotions which are unwarranted, HR Dept. is a joke as is the "club" of 6 figure employees!

    Advice to Management

Review your hiring procedures, stop playing favoritism, be transparent. Let college community know why people leave instead of saying it was their choice. Stop the deception that many know exists in HR dealings.
