I worked at Northern Power Systems full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great people, products and services.

    Cons

Sales management tends to be scattered with focus on the "shiniest object in the room." Unrealistic expectations of product, customers and market needs.

    Advice to Management

Focus on what the company excels at and drive product decisions on market requirements.

I worked at Northern Power Systems full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Product has great potential and employees believe they can help deliver a renewable energy solution.
    Casual work environment.
    Good salaries and benefits.

    Cons

Upper management lives remotely and has lost the pulse of the Barre facility (Headquarters).
Poor communication from upper management causes inefficiencies within the workforce.
High turnover rate due to good employees not being treated as the most valuable assets and were laid off or left for other opportunities. Loyalty means nothing to this company.
Lack of accountability and tendency by upper management to take shortcuts hampers the company's ability to be profitable.
Core values are preached, but aren't truly followed (especially by upper management).

    Advice to Management

Northern Power Systems used to have potential to be great, but your lack of "listening to your employees" and failure to retain dedicated and valuable employees has created a dysfunctional environment that feels like "the ship is sinking". If you want to realize your potential, treat your employees with respect and listen to them. They will want to stay and help you guide the company to success.

I worked at Northern Power Systems full-time

    Pros

The product is very interesting and the plant is the cleanest I've ever seen.

    Cons

Communication in some areas is not good and you never new when someone would suddenly be gone.

I have been working at Northern Power Systems full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Alternative energy company, Clean energy company.

    Cons

If you want to feel like a nobody, this place is for you. What is important in that company is not what you can do or your ideas. It is who you know. Small click, awful atmosphere for the most part. No chance of being promoted unless you get along with the cockroaches of the company. Pay is average.

    Advice to Management

    Get rid of the cockroaches.

    Pros

Relative to other places to work in Vermont, Northern Power is great. It's probably the best employer in Central Vermont. Good benefits, good pay, friendly people, lots of stuff going on. A really interesting place to work. And it feels good working in alternative energy.

    Cons

Wind isn't doing great as an industry. Money is tight and management is sometimes penny wise but pound foolish. Management doesn't necessarily have the technical acumen to really understand what's going on, which is unfortunate because the products are so high-tech and cutting-edge. Office politics can be an issue. Promotions can be based on seniority more than merit.

    Advice to Management

Offer promotions on merit, not seniority. Spend a little more on stuff that matters and a little less on pompous executives.

I worked at Northern Power Systems full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Decent pay and benefits, fun and oppurtunitys to travel

    Cons

Management only cares about themselves. Defeinitely a corporate minded company

    Advice to Management

Pay more attention to the needs and desires of your production employees. They are the reason you have the product ready to ship out for your orders.

    Pros

Great place to work if you live in the Barre-Montpelier area. The company is always going through exciting changes and involved in global markets that present different challenges to overcome. Great work culture and respectful of work/life balance.

    Cons

Stability is an issue. Much of the changes impacts revenue causing lay-offs. Bonuses, salary increases and promotions are difficult to attain.

    Advice to Management

Ask your employees what is really going on.
