I have been working at Northern Trust full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Autonomy among workers. Relatively decent starting salary for first job out of college with no industry experience. Overall happy with my job.

    Cons

Can definitely get boring during pipeline lulls. Lack of initial structured training was frustrating, felt very sink-or-swim. Proprietary software slightly difficult to adjust to.

    Advice to Management

Perhaps adjust onboarding training for new employees.

I have been working at Northern Trust full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of opportunity for younger generation as older employees are retiring; flexible; good benefits; nice colleagues; opportunity to try different things all over bank; interesting work; genuine care for clients and integrity in service which is rare

    Cons

Financial services generally are very competitive and so lots of politics to navigate, needs stronger experiential training, pay is soft unless you are a very high performer who pushes the issue, technology needs further updating, company is slow to remove problem managers and employees, like any big company you need to seek out resources and be proactive.

    Advice to Management

Work on grooming and retaining talent, which will cost money but will be a long term investment. Succession planning needs attention to plan for retirements.
