    Pros

Everyone I have worked with at NT is committed to doing a good job and working together to accomplish the goals of the business. NT Partners have good attitudes, kind and understanding and move the business forward without completely burning people out.

    Cons

It isn't the most "exciting" place to work.

I worked at Northern Trust full-time

    Pros

Plenty of opportunities to learn and improve the organization. Many processes have not been changed since the firm was still Omnium and had ~20 clients. Management is somewhat malleable.

    Cons

While management is somewhat malleable they will not provide sufficient support to successfully implement change. You can work yourself virtually to the bone and seemingly get nowhere because there are so many changes that need to be made to scale the company and management does next to nothing to support the middle management down. Further, if you do work hard to push positive change you will become a scape goat within the organization. My team grew by nearly 500% in headcount and added several functional areas of responsibility over nearly four years. We developed automated solutions to real business problems with no technical support or proper tooling. We worked to mitigate risks associated with poor business practices in Quality Control specifically although we were constantly overruled by business units to their own detriment and subsequently bailed them out assisting in emergency break fix efforts. Yet through all the time, effort, and added stress I consistently barely beat inflation with my salary increases, my bonuses never met the advertised 15 percent, and I never received a title promotion. Advice to Management

If you don't show appreciation to the talented people on the ground floor who hold the band-aids and bubble gum that is your platform together they will continue to leave.

I worked at Northern Trust full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Competitive benefits and decent wages.

    Cons

Ever since going public, the bottom line is to impress investors. It's an old crony, good ol' boys select group of male leaders in key positions with very few female top executives. This company is all about doing more with less - less people, less resources, less work/personal life balance. They cram employees into small cubicles with the exception of those holding upper management positions. Even the department managers, in many departments, work in cubicles. This makes it difficult to have meaningful conversation without disrupting other workers.

    Advice to Management

Stop squeezing down your work force and work spaces. People need to be able to converse and share ideas. Get rid of the old fogies still in decision-making positions, including those on the board of directors. The company can still be profitable with a full staff. CEO Waddell caved to investors.

I have been working at Northern Trust full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

A place where you can build a career. Depending on the team and function, WFH and flexibility is a big help.

    Cons

Salary and the typical office politics. Weekend work to implement changes can really be disturbing for your personal lives.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate those who are loyal and work hard for you. Money shouldn't be an issue to those who really deserve it.
