I worked at Northern Trust full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Management is committed to work/life balance with many options from which to choose.
    Growth company expanding globally.

    Cons

Necessary change is being implemented but as is the tradition at Northern, change comes about slowly and with a conservative approach.

    Advice to Management

Eliminate roles that are not necessary for the growth of the corporation. To keep expense controlled, eliminate the "nice to have roles".

I worked at Northern Trust (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Northern Trust has a deeply rooted culture of integrity and client servicing. Every aspect of work is influenced by this culture. Northern was also known for taking care of its employees and providing generous benefits.

    Cons

Like many banks based on fees, Northern has come under pressure to produce profits. The home town atmosphere that once prevailed has been slowly eroding has it becomes a global services firm. Benefits have been reduced and cost reducing efforts have come at the expense of replacing long term employees and moving positions to low cost centers

    Advice to Management

The bank would be well advised to develop strategies that focus on growth and less on relocating positions to save costs.

I have been working at Northern Trust full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Excellent brand name/ reputation
    Conservative/ client service focused culture
    Work life balance

    Cons

Growing pains due to rapid global growth/ business expansion

    Advice to Management

Reward and retain high performers (will require more than a competitive merit increase) and bridge the gap between upcoming retirees and millennials.

I have been working at Northern Trust full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great company values and benefits. Bank holidays. Great job opportunities globally. Long tenure with employees. Truly feels like you are a valued employee.

    Cons

The tenure is a pro and a con, not much of a millennial presence, company has an outdated feel. Hopefully that will be changing in the years to come.
