I have been working at Northern Trust full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There is a wealth of stability, PTO, and work life-balance.

    Cons

The company can improve on its offering of a mediocre salary and minimal travel opportunities.

    Advice to Management

It should be beneficial, financially and career-path wise, for a northern trust employee to stay within a group and grow. Currently, it's common to jump around departments for higher salaries.

management stagnating growth of tenured employees

    Advice to Management

I have been working at Northern Trust full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

CEO and senior officers do have good plans in mind. However, it would be very hard to clean up the bank with so many dishonest managers.

    Cons

most employees were cut to save money. Promotes managers who have no clue on the job. Very political company. Will not recommend to family member. Company does not retain good employees or employees that know the work. It is hard to move within the bank. There is no career advancement for the good employees since people advance based on political connections.

I have been working at Northern Trust full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great place to work if you have a family, need to get your foot in the door and gain experience in a particular area and great place to be if you are interested in a long-term carrer at one company.

    Cons

    Salaries are significantly below market.

    Advice to Management

Need to work on giving more rewards for achievement and more consequences for poor performance.

    Pros

Pretty easy to get hired. They are very flexible for people with families or that need an alternate work schedule.

    Cons

They keep a lot of dead weight working there. People who just have the mentality of showing up to get paid and do the bare minimum. They do not pay well or give good raises. Since they fire almost no one, and dont reward good workers with raises, there is very little motivation for people. Things may be better outside of the Operations department.
