I worked at Northland Power full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good benefits and good exposure to senior management.

    Cons

Bad pay (especially with regards to bonus), executive management is scattered brained (especially the CEO), the office is outdated, the company has no professional development programs and treat employees as a disposable resource. Finally, the company has no competitive advantage, so not a great place to learn either.

    Advice to Management

Pick a growth strategy and stick to it. You cannot be everything to everyone.

I have been working at Northland Power full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Northland is a great place to work, the people that work here are extremely intelligent, friendly and are driven. Senior Leadership is open to new ideas - especially from those who think outside the box and bring a fresh perspective. Senior Leadership also takes very good care of its employees. The company is well respected and growing. Two thumbs up.

    Cons

    Not many cons at Northland!

    I worked at Northland Power

    Pros

Nice location. Easy commute. Many employees are genuinely nice people.

    Cons

Abusive workplace where managers truly believe verbal abuse is a management tool. The verbal abuse is propagated up the chain & HR / Legal do nothing to reprimand abusive employees. There is a general air of unaccountability, they would rather fire and blame consultants for failures rather than taking action actual real issues impacting progress. Managers live in an imaginary world where meetings consume 90% of...

    Advice to Management

Promote youth from within. Fire every executive over 40. Micro managing employees is insulting and demeaning - take some self help classes, take some business management classes, measure your improvements. Empower employees for success and support them through challenges. Stop point fingers/abandoning employees ushering in change while supporting stagnant employees campaigning against project success. ...
