I have been working at Northrop Grumman full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The work was not challenging, not very stressful, decent pay for the area. Very consistent with opportunity to move around the company.

    Cons

Boring. The best metaphor I can come up with is, don't reinvent the wheel, even if it's 5x too big, is a hexagon, and breaks every time it finishes a rotation.

    Advice to Management

Diversify within groups would go a long ways. My team was all guys with aerospace backgrounds, but very few knew how to write good code, and didn't know much about anything outside of their very small field.

I have been working at Northrop Grumman full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Super relaxed schedule. You work 9-80's and often times you can flex it if you want to take an extra day off or what not. Supporting production means overtime hours (though not at overtime rate) is pretty easy to come by. You meet some really nice people and work with many great individuals. Good horizontal movement if you want to try different roles (at least in the Aerospace Sector).

    Cons

Large companies are too bureaucratic. It takes way too long to get anything done (which can be a blessing and a curse depending on your personality). Older folks in the company do not like change and is really hard for someone starting out to restructure a process or make improvements. Poor vertical movement. Good luck promoting haha.

ALSO, if you get an offer and the HR tells you that there is no cap to the reimbursement program for their masters program - do not listen to them as it is only partially true. The education reimbursement program is a joke. If you want to get something outside of your technical scope of responsibilities, it will not get approved. If you want more money to cover your expenses, you will need to get VP signature which is near impossible.

    Advice to Management

Cut the red tape. The chain of approval is too long, and by the time it gets to the big boss on top, he hardly even knows what the approval is for anyways.

Direct advice to my manager: exercise inclusion and promote a healthy work environment. There are good days and bad days, but if you react negatively to all the bad news - it can be really demoralizing for your team.

    Pros

They're growing right now and hiring a lot of great people. Really enjoyed working with the team.

    Cons

The buildings they are using (for office space) are old and outdated. Not a modern working environment.

    Advice to Management

Spend some money on a little remodeling.

    Pros

    Cons

At times, the company culture tends to deter younger engineers

    Advice to Management

Invest in young talent, and encourage them by providing benefits

I worked at Northrop Grumman full-time

    Pros

Good benefits back then, stable job, decent pay, flexibility

    Cons

Low upward mobility, nepotism, poor at keeping talented employees, no career path for younger engineers

    Advice to Management

Reward your best employees or they will eventually leave. Track employee retention rates amongst managers. Get rid of managers that lose their best engineers because they are driving out the future of the company.

    Pros

Great place to work for and great people. Good working environment and atmosphere. Lots of job opportunities. Easy going employees and management.

    Cons

I didn't see that many cons. I wish my contract would've lasted longer, so I could still be working there.

    Advice to Management

To create more jobs and also more entry level jobs. For people with no degrees, but have lots of work experience.
