I have been working at Northrop Grumman full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits, 9/80 schedule, vast networking opportunity, on the cutting edge of defense system design and development.

    Cons

Depending on the size of your group it can be difficult to stand out.
From my experience innovation is driven from the top down, more so at NG than at Raytheon.

    Advice to Management

Push 6-Sigma, DFMA's, and Patent Submissions more often.

I worked at Northrop Grumman full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Northrop Grumman provides a stable career path to people out of college. The company does take care of you and helps out with relocation or business travel. Good environment to start your career.

    Cons

Compensation wasn't that good. They sort of low balled me on the offer. It was hard to get a promotion in the company, you almost have to relocate or change divisions. You have to be lucky in where you are placed or who you get to work for to get the best learning opportunity and get raises. If you are motivated, you can venture out and try learning outside of your work or transfer to a different department.

    Advice to Management

Open more opportunities for employees who want to learn.

As with all big companies - sometimes you can feel like just a number

I have been working at Northrop Grumman full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

There's a good work culture at NG. Plenty of people challenging the conventional way of solving problems. The 9/80 work flexibility is nice.

    Cons

Benefits have gone down in recent years. It went from unlimited sick time, to 2 days a year. My vacation policy also changed from 20 days of vacation after 5 years, and now I only get 17. Salaries are below average for the area and the industry.

I have been working at Northrop Grumman full-time

    Pros

They're growing right now and hiring a lot of great people. Really enjoyed working with the team.

    Cons

The buildings they are using (for office space) are old and outdated. Not a modern working environment.

    Advice to Management

Spend some money on a little remodeling.

I worked at Northrop Grumman (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent benefits to include affordable, comprehensive medical plans, 401k investments matched up to 6%, access to education with a high annual cap on education spending, opportunity to travel for business and personnel development, outstanding managers, promote from within, acknowledge achievement in personnel (even award cash bonuses). Opportunities for advancement, and tons of positions to apply for all over the world.

    Cons

Leaving this company was not easy. My contract ended, and I couldn't find a follow-on within the company before my last day. Rather than lay me off (which is what would typically happen in that situation), they told me I had to resign. They did not offer any form of severance, and I did not receive my final pay check until the end of the pay cycle (CA state law says I should have received it within 48 hours of my final shift worked), also in that 2 weeks my 401k took about a 10% hit because of market fluctuation, so it really cost me a lot of money to leave NG.

I have been working at Northrop Grumman as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Opportunities to work highly technical jobs.

    Cons

Program management is awful, very little guidance, do more with less mentality. No formal training provided, everything was OJT. Very little expectation of reciprocity. Mission First, employee maybe mentality.

    Advice to Management

Be involved, empathetic, and actually do your job - "manage".

I worked at Northrop Grumman full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good people to work with. Very interesting work in the Satellite industry.
Pay is good in comparison with other large companies. They have 9-80 schedule with
the possibility to work from home.

    Cons

Very large employee base, you can get lost in the crowd if you are not on a very visible program
Salary and performance reviews are disappointing.

    Advice to Management

When this division was owned by TRW, moral, job security, pay raises and what seemed to be appreciation was better than under Northrop Grumman's management. A review of what changed might benefit both the management and staff.
