I worked at Northrop Grumman full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great training programs, lots of career advancement, lots of career switching options, some fantastic managers and co-workers. Great pay and benefits for low - mid engineers, more experienced will probably make more elsewhere. The flexible hours were nice. Very professional as well.

    Cons

Almost everything requires a security clearance. Wait times can be up to 18 months. Unclassified work is few and far between.

    Advice to Management

Most of the 'drama' of work was caused by engineering managers; but I know you are well aware of that.

I have been working at Northrop Grumman full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

9/80 Schedule is something that helps maintain some life balance. Definitely can find interesting work at a place like Northrop.

    Cons

No career path at such a large corporation. Theres a certain amount of sexism and sometimes managers are more interested in making their numbers look good instead of showing with honesty and integrity in the work they di

    Advice to Management

Career planning is practically non exiatent

I worked at Northrop Grumman full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Northrop Grumman has a variety of contracts to support and they try to match people with good opportunities, They do good job of building a sense of community despite their size. They make continued learning a priority with plenty of internal and external options.

    Cons

The main downsides come from the nature of the customers they support. Contracts and organization change which can be challenging. When I left, they had begun a reorganization which I would imagine has improved things.

I have been working at Northrop Grumman full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very stable employment. Interesting defense electronics work.

    Cons

Difficult to grow career. Difficult to move past individual contributor status. Promotion out of principal engineer to fellow engineer takes a complicated review board process. No sense of urgency in this company.

    Advice to Management

You talk about innovation but don't really support it. Engineers with great ideas get ignored. Careers tend to stagnate, engineers are undertasked.

I have been working at Northrop Grumman full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Have worked with some of the best engineers I've ever known at NGC. First level managers will bend over backwards for their team.

    Cons

Upper management didn't listen. Often reach down too far down into organization structure and force the will instead of allowing to flow down through appropriate channels.

    Advice to Management

Trust those who work for you. Micro management kills morale and productivity.
