I worked at Northwest Alabama Mental Health full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Almost all of the management positions are filled in-house by former therapists (director positions) or former consumer specialists (program coordinators). This typically promotes a degree of empathy regarding realistic caseloads and billing expectations. Exceptional/profitable work is often recognized by management and occasionally rewarded, given that your immediate supervisor has not become complacent or is not having their own tenure threatened by those above him or her. The work environment can become family-like (with co-workers and familiar clients alike) after sufficient time with the company.

    Cons

Low starting pay for many positions.

I have been working at Northwest Alabama Mental Health full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The consumers that you work for become family really quick!

    Cons

Not near enough pay for what you have to do. You give meds, you cook, you clean, you transport individuals everywhere, you do vehicle maintenance, you do therapy sessions, etc.... It's bs pay! A job with everything that this one entells should pay at least $10 per hour & have shift differential pay! Oh and the coordinators are heartless biotchs!

    Advice to Management

Value your employees or continue to hire more & more people because the turn over rate for people quitting is about to skyrocket!

    Cons

Not premium pay, usual staff squabbles, long hours, physically demanding at times, takes lots of patience and kindness, desire to work with clients with physical/mental disabilities

    Advice to Management

Better pay would bring more quality employees, lower insurance rates would bring and keep quality employees, mgmt on same page would help employees

I worked at Northwest Alabama Mental Health (More than 8 years)

    Pros

If the company "made money" during the year from insurance claims, i.e. Medicaid, Medicare, Private, and/or fundraising, then employees received a "bonus" check at the end of the physical year. Note: this is a non-profit organization. Flexible hours. Caring employees.

    Cons

Lots of "creative bookkeeping" going on. Lot's and lot's of drama by management and flows to employees. Not a honest company dealing with insurance companies, the public, employees, state officials, etc. There is a lot of favoritism within the organization.

    Advice to Management

One day, the ship will sink if you continue to do what you do.

I worked at Northwest Alabama Mental Health full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

10 paid holidays for full time employees. Supervision for licensure provided. Depending on where you work, you may have some good coworkers.

    Cons

Ridiculously priced insurance if you have a family (and are required to take it), upper level management so far disconnected from their consumers they have lost their desire to change things, low pay, high stress, they reward corrupt behavior, low accumulation of vacation time.

    Advice to Management

Learn to appreciate your staff. No one sticks around because you give them no reason to. Your high turnover rate on employees is costing you money in training. People jump boat left and right not because of the stress or consumers, but because this company acts like they do not care.

    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at Northwest Alabama Mental Health full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Some of the individuals I worked with (not coworkers) made the job bearable

    Cons

Management talks to and treats employees like trash, no chance for advancement, no pay raises, backstabbing coworkers (TRUST NO ONE!!!), bootlickers are rewarded.

    Advice to Management

Get off the golf course, quit playing favorites and actually reward your hard working employees instead of just giving lip service to how much you "appreciate all that you do".
