I have been working at Northwestern Medicine full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

As big as the hospital is, we are all usually met with similar positive attitudes: Patient’s First. Everyone here tries to satisfy the needs of our patients and goes beyond the call of duty to make an impact for them.

    Cons

As the hospital grows, keeping everyone on the same page becomes more difficult. It’s difficult to grow so much and keep the same caring atmosphere - but we manage to do it.

    Advice to Management

Keep growing with patients being the heart of it all.

I worked at Northwestern Medicine part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The staff and coworkers are informative and helpful. You feel like you help people everyday and it's a fast paced environment. The job is also active, you work on your feet most if not all day.

    Cons

The standards set at the company are extremely rigid and they expect too much with too little training. They did not properly prepare me and inform me of what is expected of me

    Advice to Management

I would say to give more chances for remediation and for error. It is impossible to be perfect and being my first opportunity as a nursing assistant they should have done a better job coaching and preparing their workers.

I have been working at Northwestern Medicine full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

PTO is fair and offered benefits are great. Work location and hours are ideal to balancing life with kids. Easy to take needed time off for planned or unplanned family events.

    Cons

It's hard to advance or move out positions. The ever changing organization makes it difficult to feel secure in a job. The pay raises are insufficient with the cost of living. Not all managers have the same standards making it difficult to deal with each of them. HR is way too involved when it comes to compensating employees and title changes. For example, if you have a certain title your rate of pay is based on that, so even if you do twice as much work and support twice as many people you won't be paid more based on your abilities. Too much nepotism.

    Advice to Management

Stop worrying about the quota's. Pay employees what they deserve and stop hiring your family to do jobs they have no skills to do. Nepotism is a problem here and if you don't know anyone in another department to help you advance then you are just stuck. Managers should want their employees to advance and here not so much.
