I have been working at Northwestern Medicine full-time

    Pros

When I started working here 5 years ago I thought I had finally made it (after applying nonstop for 3 years to no avail). After making 16$ an hr at other hospitals I thought making $18.60+ $1.00 shift diff (for evenings) +$1.50 shift diff (for weekends) was great. They have tuition reimbursement, you get discount for certain things because of ur affiliation with NM. $250 reimbursement towards any purchases you have made to improve your health. Get to work at one of the number one hospitals in Illinois. Looks good for school and on future applications to other healthcare companies.

    Cons

Unnecessary exposures to health hazards. They do not enforce proper isolation protocols. I caught Covid on my unit, reported it the same day. I was off work an entire month, and the entire time I was off , trying to regain my strength and health, I had to fight with management and hr to put in for my workers compensation. Management will act like they did it (which is against the law) then play like u got denied. They no longer provide the 6% 401k match. They froze people’s 401ks when Covid started effecting the stock market so people couldn’t do an emergency withdraw to support their families. A lot of good nurses on my unit, but I have worked the medicine floors and the nurses are horrible. No help whatsoever. Tech work seems beneath them. Anyone making over 37/hr no longer can accrue pto. Parking in the garage that’s an ENTIRE BLOCK AWAY costs 130$/ month. Union does NOTHING. They take 60 something dollars out of ur check EVERY two weeks and wont fight for us. If u are not knowledgeable of labor laws or your union agreement your managers will use it against you. Before working at northwestern I was great, after almost 5 years of accidental exposures and nothing being done by management, I am now seeking psychiatric treatment for panick attacks and anxiety due to my job. I’m literally taking psychiatric medication now. I AM ONLY A PCT!!! Also, if you are going to work as a transporter or environmental services, BEWARE...managers will micromanage you to death! If you get reported on, for any little thing, they almost always go with the nurse or drs side. I had a coworker that got written up because a nurse emailed on her for standing at a desk because her rooms where done!
