I worked at Northwestern Mutual full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Great Group of people in the Austin TX office, First Class Training and licensing. Mgmt treats the employees the same as the clients - as if each is highly valued. Snacks, Drinks , Beautiful office bldg. Have to be sales personality to get clients here.

    Cons

1099 commission role unless you are on staff with an advisor.

    Advice to Management

    Great team to work with.

I worked at Northwestern Mutual for less than a year

    Pros

A career at Northwestern Mutual offers great potential for growth ...

    Cons

... but this growth will require you to uncomfortably ask your friends and family to purchase life insurance.

I have been working at Northwestern Mutual full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Good culture - Friendly Environment - Easy to manage once you got your foot in the door

    Cons

    - Comission Based - Lots of work - Hard to start off Your not really a financial adviser or representative. You sell insurance but your given the title of Advisor to make yourself and the clients feel better

    Advice to Management

Find other ways to create profit and revenue besides pumping out life insurance salesman

I worked at Northwestern Mutual full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great company culture, good way to get experience for new job-seekers, and now benefits are available to associates.

    Cons

Advisors are often unorganized, poor at managing teams and don't have a clue how the administrative side of things goes. Selling is their primary goal, and this leads to conflicting expectations about team priorities. Associates are rarely coached or recognized.

    Advice to Management

Advisors need to be trained in the process so they know what their associates are doing and what information they need to be effective at their jobs. It's not uncommon for cases to stall because advisors don't communicate well with their teams.

I have been working at Northwestern Mutual full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - -At Northwestern Mutual there is no ceiling. -Ability to work at a company that has offices all over the country. -Depending on your office the leadership can make or break you. In Richmond, Virginia the Managing Partner, District Director, and Senior Advisors are extremely skilled, helpful, and very communicative. - As an Associate Financial Representative all your certifications should be paid by the... company or your advisor. Meaning Series 6,63,7,66, etc. can all be attained with spending your own money. - It's a great entry level position.

    Cons

The Associate Financial Representative business is salaried, but provides none of the prospects a Financial Advisor has. Meaning there is a ceiling for earnings, you do a lot of the grunt work, and the advisor you work under can really hinder or make your future.

I worked at Northwestern Mutual full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Team oriented - Constant growth through continuing education and learning (classroom) sessions - Established structure of leadership - Rewards their employees for their hard work

    Cons

    - Overwhelming at first - Work load varies throughout the day - Systems and applications may crash at times

    Advice to Management

While continuing education is important and should stay apart of the day to day operations. What may also be helpful is to have experienced/Knowledgeable employees share the information that they know in seminar settings to lower level aspiring employees.

    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at Northwestern Mutual full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Could possibly work for a representative who is a good manager. Some Service Advisors have a good work environment, all at the discretion of the representative they work for.

    Cons

The representative who hires you may provide few benefits, if any, and may have no flexibility. Representatives are fairly independent; Northwestern Mutual does little to tell them how to manage people other than ensuring they are in compliance with insurance and security regulations.
