    Pros

the Culture is awesome! Most people are between 29-45, all very sharp motivated professionals, those in the business longer are friendly and extremely knowledgably and willing to help and share their experienced.

    Cons

at times it seems like small things are blown out of proportion but it's only to help make us all better as much as that stings at first.

    Advice to Management

notice those who are giving their all and listen to their opinions.

I have been working at Northwestern Mutual full-time for more than a year

    Pros

A lot of independence and the culture is alright most of the time. The awards and rewards trip incentives and additional bonuses and great as well. The products and services offered are very valuable for clients.

    Cons

Most of management hasn't worked anywhere outside of Northwestern Mutual so things are mostly unchanging and it's hard to be innovative and curious. The offices are franchised so no one office is the same which is very confusing.

    No opinion of CEO

I worked at Northwestern Mutual full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Not much to write here - - Good base $ for a corporate recruiting role - Fin Advisors are good guys in Philly and want to help you - Awesome office staff - Location and new office are unreal

    Cons

    - Terrible bonus pay for bringing on Fin Reps - AWFUL and I mean awful culture. You want to see a sad miserable place? Look no further! - Company is so obsolete with how they pay their Financial reps, it makes recruiting for them miserable - No support for career growth - Lack of support from upper management, including Managing Partner

    Advice to Management

WAKE UP! Look around, all the under 5 years reps have left, the culture is ruined. Time to start over

I have been working at Northwestern Mutual full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great company, great people, great financial products, lots of freedom to execute on new recruiting strategies and ideas as long as you perform

    Cons

Lack of training and resources for recruiters new recruiters, lack of recognition to recruiters from leadership for meeting and exceeding recruiting targets, lack of growth for experienced recruiters.

    Advice to Management

Recruiter turnover is high, so focus on recognizing the recruiters that perform well. Also spend less time on high maintenance recruited who don't put in the work and don't meet their recruiting targets.

I have been working at Northwestern Mutual full-time

    Pros

Recruiters are given autonomy and ownership over the department. The more success you achieve, the more doors that are opened for you. Recruiting is at the center of NM's exclusive distribution model. Being on the full-time recruiting time, you are able to add value and directly control the impact of the organization.

    Cons

High recruiter turn over around the country. It is really a sales job not an HR role. However, bonuses are usually all uncapped so the harder you work, the more money you earn. Six figure opportunity for the right person. It is best to start as a coordinator and learn from the ground up before becoming a director.

    Advice to Management

Invest more money in supporting your high level recruiters. Admin assistants, interns, etc. Payinf for outside coaches is extremely beneficial as well.

Limited training for recruiters. Most training comes from Managing Director. Accountability comes from Managing Director.

    I worked at Northwestern Mutual

    Pros

The people you recruit will work for commission only--that's the most difficult type of recruiting you can do. If you succeed, you'll learn how to find talent and sell as good or better than any recruiter out there. Good training / learning for the basics of recruiting: high activity, hit the phones, referrals, sell the meeting, etc.

    Cons

The pay is well below market value in NYC. $45,000 base salary when market value is $65,000 - 70,000 for entry level corporate jobs. Bonus structure, rather than commission, and they're very difficult to hit. Don't expect to make a lot of cash on top of your base in your first year. Despite the low-ball salary, management has little patience for lack of early results, so it's a revolving door. Average tenure... is probably 10 months. Management's strategy is to pay low-salary, avoid giving bonuses, and cycle through people until they strike it rich on a decent recruiter.

    Advice to Management

Take time to develop your recruiters. Understanding your in a "need results now business," either pay better for experienced recruiters or take time to develop the entry-level talent you recruit. New hires won't really get the hang of it for 6, maybe even 12 months, but many are let go just as they've becoming effective.

I have been working at Northwestern Mutual

    Pros

Flexibility, great products, training is good, great opportunity if you got what it takes

    Cons

Everyone is out for themselves, to an extent. Reps have to pay for all their staffs training. Reps complain about cash flow, even the successful ones.

    Advice to Management

Take better care of reps staff or give them allowance. Makes things difficult when you are just as qualified as them but low on totem pole.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing a great job inspiring new and existing employees and representatives.
