    Pros

Growth and active team membership means work is fluent

    Cons

Due to contracted jobs hard to advance in any department

    Advice to Management

Open the doors to hiring full time employess not under a contract company if you want people to stay

    Pros

I started at NWM in their "post graduate internship" following graduation. I essentially worked full time on a intern contract. It was an awesome experience, albeit hard; it was a great learning opportunity. This is not an easy industry for anyone to work in, no matter what your background is. Know that you will have some really good days, and some really bad days. You must be really mentally strong in order to do well. The good news is that hard work will always pay off in this industry.

-Fun and competitive environment to work in (work hard play hard)

    - Work for yourself

    - Awesome training and management

    - Huge earning potential

    - You can dictate your success if you're willing to put the time in

    - Best company in the industry

    Cons

-Must have a large "natural market" or network if you want to have semi decent chances of success

-Full commission and business expenses as you're a contracted employee

    - Beause it is such a work hard play hard environment, there are some Financial Advisors and Financial Reps to avoid; as in all industries.

    - There really is nothing like the earning potential here, but be realistic. The numbers that they often give you are not the averages. There are some people who have been in the business for a while who are still making very little.

I have been working at Northwestern Mutual as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

I currently work for Northwestern Mutual and it is has been the best thing that has happened to my professional life. They are an amazing company. They take care of their employees. If you are willing to do the work, they will provide the benefits and training.

    Cons

Finding your own referrals sucks. You will be turned down everyday as an intern. It's hard to stay motivated because there is not someone over you giving you tasks. Being successful is completely up to you. It is also a total commission business so if you don't sell you don't make money.

    Advice to Management

The management couldn't be better to be honest. My manager was supportive, kind, and very funny.

I have been working at Northwestern Mutual full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great company that strongly believes in the mutual concept and puts policyowners' interests first.

    Cons

Number of tasks requires using many different programs which makes getting things done quickly hard. No benefits from NM. Associates are employed by individual agents and benefits vary. NO group health insurance. Work life balance depends on the agent you work for.

I have been working at Northwestern Mutual full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great company overall; very well known; awesome annual and central meetings. The meetings really make you aware of the scale of the company and the amazing work they do. There's so much room for growth- NM pays for you to go back to school and usually your rep is willing to pay for Life and Health, Series 6&7

    Cons

Unless you work for the Home Office, it solely depends upon the Rep you work for. Mine is personally horrible and does not know how to run a practice, but others in the office are amazing. Also my rep started his team off SOOO low that it was very hard to come to work some days.

I worked at Northwestern Mutual as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

The leadership here is amazing. I truly felt like they were there to support me in my goals and career. It's a tough industry, but they are on your side rooting for you and your success. They want to make sure that you are professional in all that you do, take proper care of your clients, and find success for yourself. Plus, they have awesome perks, company parties, competitions, prizes, etc.

    Cons

It's not a con, but you need to realize that this is a sales position where you are out getting your own leads, drumming up your own business. You are starting a business, but the company gives you all of the tools that you need- it's a lot easier than starting one from nothing.

    Advice to Management

    Keep it up guys!
