      Pros

They put a lot of work into ensuring your success at the company, through continuous coaching and mentorship and a rigorous financial planning academy. Everyone is willing to help you succeed and the culture is values-driven.

      Cons

Like any other job, the work is commission-based, but luckily they don't push anything on you. They reinforce the idea of your success being based on how hard you work.

      Pros

Education of insurance and earning life and health license

      Cons

No base pay, you must create your own book of business, to much back and forth paperwork w/ sett and underwriters, jaded and counterproductive leadership, intern stipend sucks, high turnover This is basically a pyramid scheme. Directors conduct predatory hiring all year together talent in the door without vetting candidates for overall sustainability, proper experience, or knowledge. They sell you this idea of running your own business but the reality is not everyone is able to run an entire business with no experience. They send you to take the test to get licensed and force you to sell hundreds of life policies within your first year otherwise you don’t get paid since it’s commission based. What ends up happening is new talent leaves and upper management get to profit off clients brought in by old agents.

      Pros

Everyone wants to help you perform your best. Anyone from new advisors to 20 year veteran advisors all would have no problem taking time to help an intern anyway that they could.

      Cons

Commission based pay made the internship a bit hard for a whole summer

      Great Opportunity to learn

      Pros

      - The whole office greets you with open arms. - Your supervisor and mentor are always there to help you and answer any questions. - Convincing people that you don't know to hop on a financial meeting with you is so gratifying and boosts your confidence (especially if they become a client)

      Cons

      - You have to start this job by calling and setting meetings with relatives and friends and branch off from there - If you become full time (which I have not, yet), the pay is mostly commission based only. You get weekly stipends, but a lot of what you do is based off of your performance to bring on clients

      Cons

The only downside that some people may find when working here is that it is mostly commission based.

Could be a good career, but not entirely transparent

      Dec 8, 2020 - Financial Representative

      Pros

The potential to be successful exists and there is a lot of autonomy and freedom since you're technically independent and self-employed.

      Cons

Maybe it was just the location I was at, but they were not transparent about how the compensation worked. They rope you in by telling you about their program for newbies that helps you get compensated since the job is 100% commission based. But they didn't make it clear, at all, that there were thresholds you had to achieve and maintain to even qualify.

100% commission if you join full time

Oct 27, 2020 - College Financial Representative in Chicago, IL
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

-Positive work culture and flexibility to make your own work schedule

      Cons

As an intern you will receive $100 a week as a stipend, no matter how many hours you work. If you work 35 hours or 10 hours a week - pay will be the same UNLESS you bring on new clients. Your entire job is to solicit and source new potential clients. I really did not like the fact that you're expected to solicit your family and friends and you basically won't succeed if you don't. Overall, if you are interested in being an insurance sales person and are okay with being 100% commission based then this job may be great for you. After the internship I realized this career path is NOT for me.
