Great People at a Top Financial Company

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Everyone, from the interns, to the full-time reps and support staff, to the branch manager, was fantastic. Although everyone runs their own business and handles their clients on their own, there is always help available if you ask. The amount of support and optimism from everyone was incredible. Going into this internship, I knew next to nothing about insurance or financial planning, but the training process and work itself solidified my knowledge in these areas and showed me how important these things can be. It wasn't just about making money. Working on commission was tough as this incentivizes people to sell sell sell, but every full-time worker stressed the importance of the relationship side of the business rather than the money-making.

      Cons

As a first-year summer intern that began during the COVID pandemic, it was difficult to begin building my business as many were not looking to spend more money. One of the biggest issues was generating potential clients. There are no leads given out, so to begin you have to call family and friends, which for some may not feel quite right. If this does not work, you must rely on cold-calling, which is has a very low success rate.

      Con's Vastly outweigh any Pro's

      Pros

Set your own schedule, work as much or as little as you want in order to make the salary you want (but trust me it is much harder that it seems, you are not given leads you will be trying to sell to all your close friends and family to start off and then try to pawn off leads and referrals from your close friends and family, so if you are from out of town or just moved to the location, I would highly recommend not taking this job)

      Cons

Get your own referrals from your close friends and family which is incredibly uncomfortable; company acts like they support you but when push comes to shove they care only for their reputation; It is a negative reinforcement atmosphere in the firm and business especially for females in the industry, they do not pay out on their "monthly bonus" even when the biggest draw for new comers is their monthly bonus to survive in the industry

      Cold Calls but High Potential

      Jan 11, 2021 - Financial Representative

      Pros

I loved my team and the training is very helpful. Everyone really does want you to succeed. If you feel comfortable cold calling your family and friends and then asking them to provide you with referrals, you could do very well in this field.

      Cons

Commission pay only. The position is advertised as financial planner but in actuality all it included is making cold calls to your family and friends to try to get them to buy life insurance and it is very uncomfortable.

      Pros

Very good company with good values. The mentors and other representatives are very helpful with training.

      Cons

The only con was the success is based off of “warm” calls where you call friends and family to gain a clientele.

      Pros

      - The sales school was kind of useful - They'll pay for any industry certification you want to get

      Cons

      - You don't have a book of business to start with - They make you poach your friends and family for sales - Their investment and insurance products are mediocre at best and predatory at worst

Great if you're a go-getter, an entrepreneur, and enjoy a sales position. Otherwise, it can be high stress.

      Pros

You get to work for yourself If you are good at sales, you can earn a lot of money If the internship is a good fit for you, you could have a job for life

      Cons

Can feel intrusive; they make you try to sell life insurance to close friends and family Besides $100 weekly stipends over the 10 week internship period, it is all commissions based
