  1. "A decent place to work and study as a GA or student worker!"

I worked at Northwestern State University part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Excellent professors who know their stuff
    Friendly coworkers
Felt appreciated and supported by department head and professors
Gained great experience and skills that will benefit me in the future
The university gives 4 freebie hours for school holidays

    Cons

Only allowed to work 20 hours per week
Low salary (12,000 a year...15 ish if you work during the summer too)
Graduate Assistants are not allowed to park in faculty/staff parking

    Advice to Management

I think graduate assistants should be offered at least partial tuition waivers for their work. Most universities offer tuition waivers for graduate assistants. I don't see why NSU doesn't. Also faculty parking passes would be nice.

I worked at Northwestern State University part-time

    Pros

There are some amazing professors and staff at NSU. I love this school and all the support it offers their students.

    Cons

It seems nothings gets done in a timely manner, little sense of urgency with matters that require it.

    Advice to Management

Better communication within and between departments. With a smaller work force I would like to see more collaboration.

I worked at Northwestern State University (Less than a year)

    Pros

Friendly people ... historic and beautiful campus and surrounding town ... significant responsibility in most roles due to smaller staff sizes.

    Cons

Everyone seems to be on their way out or interested in finding their way out ... "it's always been done this way" mentality in a lot of staffers you encounter ... budget shortfall provides little room for financial growth regardless of achievement ... festivals/celebrations are great when they are going on but otherwise, there is very little activities around town on an average day.

    Advice to Management

Keep fighting the good fight against the corrupt political establishment in Baton Rouge.

    Pros

Understanding of your balance to work and study towards your master's degree.

    Cons

Low pay, some G.A's can have any easy position that requires little work and others have a huge amount of duties for their assistantship

I worked at Northwestern State University part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great Personable environment that works around student's Class schedules. It is a great starter position for someone who needs a job. You work closely with professors in your department, so you can learn more about your field through them.

    Cons

The technology available to students needs to be upgraded and software that students use needs to be more compatible with what they will use in the real job market.

    Advice to Management

Update professors on what the field is like now in various careers and make sure that students know how to use the tools that they will need in the future job market.
