I worked at Northwestern University part-time

    Pros

The community of student callers is really fun.

    Cons

Newest recruits get the worst people to call: young alumni, so you struggle right off the bat while your supervisors expect you to do well to make your bonus.

    Advice to Management

Ease up on the young new recruits

I have been working at Northwestern University full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Strong research institution in great financial state, impression of administration largely positive.

Good benefits, non-NRSA postdocs treated as full employees:
    - Solid and relatively inexpensive health and dental insurance
    - Matching retirement up to 5% plus 5% employer contribution for employees with 1+ years service
    - Good parental leave - four weeks paid for employees with 3+ years service

    Cons

    - Postdoc salary is low (same as everywhere)
    - Northwestern is perhaps a hair more bureaucratic than other research institutions I've worked at - emphasis on paper forms, etc.
    - Northwestern is pretty 'small c' conservative
    - (Mixed) Support for core labs is not amazing, but improving

    Advice to Management

Improvements to lab ordering system would be appreciated.
