I have been working at Norton Healthcare part-time

    Pros

The company really cares about the employees.

    Cons

Hand washing was a huge campaign last year, but ironically we were set up to draw blood for 8 weeks in a place where we had no access to a hand washing sink. This to me spoke volumes about how the company wants to see itself verses how it pans out for employees.

I worked at Norton Healthcare full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I worked for Norton Healthcare in very different departments, and the only positive attributes are training their employees and offering continuing educational opportunities. For the most part, the staff is great and communicates well between disciplines and departments.

    Cons

    Where do I start:
-As I mentioned, the staff on a whole is great and communicates well between disciplines and departments. However, this does NOT include management or HR, which is about the WORST I have ever encountered. I have had managers who were non-existent and relied on "spies" to give them information about the department where they should have been a constant presence. I never had a manager or HR representative who took complaints from staff seriously, unless it was from one of the spies or if it meant bad publicity for the hospital. This includes a collective report from my co-workers after being met with verbal and psychological abuse from a manager, which was met with silence from HR and upper management after repeated attempts to report the abuse.
-Norton Healthcare spends a lot of time and money on public relations creating a pretty picture in the guise of being faith-based, ethical, caring, and concerned about their employees and patients.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees' concerns and work with them to create a nurturing work environment where HR actually does their job and works to resolve conflict instead of punishing people for speaking up.

I worked at Norton Healthcare full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The leaders at NHC genuinely care about the wellbeing of their employees. They also take their role as community leaders to heart and encourage stewardship and service of all employees.

    Cons

Norton's leaders have been with the organization for many, many years and while this demonstrates loyalty, it can also lead to exclusion with newcomers not a part of the in-crowd. New energy, ideas and voices may be overlooked.

    Advice to Management

Continue developing new leaders and focus on perfecting the basics of safety quality and service before moving on to flashy new programs and products.

    Pros

Norton is an excellent employer that cares about employees. My supervisor has been very responsive to any concerns. Other employees have been friendly and helpful as well. Their benefits package covers various levels of coverage and a matching 401k program.

    Cons

Any problems I have encountered have been resolved.
