I have been working at Norwalk Community College (More than a year)

    Pros

It is a good place. It has nice people to work with and good experience.

    Cons

You have to move a lot from class to class to fix and replace computers and some things else.

    Pros

    Great students and good facilities

    Cons

At NCC there are really no cons to put in this review

    Pros

    A great opportunity for teachers.

    Cons

First month of pay is delayed, but other than that they're very professional.

    Advice to Management

Just be a bit more organized.

    Pros

Flexible with scheduling around classes. Reinforces material having to tutor other students.

    Cons

Low pay. Not enough to support yourself alone.

    Advice to Management

Keep looking out for the students in need of a small job while trying to finish their degree. It helped me when I needed it.

    Pros

The many of students are eager to learn and interesting to talk to in and out of classes. A large portion are new immigrants and are so happy to be getting a college education, they work really hard.

    Cons

On the other hand, some of our "American born" students are not working up to their potential and lack the drive they need to get ahead. This is really discouraging to the faculty.

    Pros

The staff members here are nice, easy to get along with. Not as much politics as it used to be. People like to work here because it was easy to get vacation off. Almost always a 'yes'. There has been a change of management in the past 1.25 years. Now it's harder to get off and 2 weeks max.

    Cons

Bad management. A lot of promises and thank you, but never a bonus. No matching 401k.

    Advice to Management

Step it up. Bad management will result unmotivated employees, and ultimately poor feedback/reviews from clients.

"A good community college with more stringent demands of its students than the four-year schools in the area."

I worked at Norwalk Community College part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

You get a lot of support from the chair of your department. Most students actually want to learn, which is always great. I had a great time teaching there. The pay is competitive for what's in the area. Although you don't get faculty parking, there are usually a few spaces open.

    Cons

Well, if you're living the life of an itinerant, i.e., adjunct, you class(es) could get cancelled the night before the semester begins. But you can charge that to the game.

    Advice to Management

Not to sound sycophantic, but I haven't been around long enough to gripe.

    Pros

    School has a good reputation
my immediate boss is very supportive
    pay is decent

    Cons

Nearly impossible to get a full-time position and benefits
Copy equipment is often not working and faculty support office is unstaffed
some of the classrooms are in need of updating
parking can be tricky at peak times
admin staff can be very unhelpful and/or nonresponsive

    Advice to Management

Be more available to faculty; stop changing the Blackboard system so often which requires us to attend classes on our own time; observe my classes more often.
