I have been working at Not Your Average Joes

    Pros

    - Opportunity for LOTS of hours. - Place is very busy in the winter season. - Casual clientele, low-stress environment. - Good money for the winter season and weekends. You're not held on too high of a standard so there is a lot of opportunity to learn the ropes here. The clientele is very casual so you can really bring your personality to your tables. Check averages have the potential to get very high during...

    Cons

    - Summer is horrid for business unless you work the patio every day. - Hours are terribly long (you either get over scheduled or under scheduled) - Breaks are considered a "luxury." May the gods help you to ever get one. - Eating is also a luxury since you'll get in trouble for it when your starving on a double with no break. - Cutting procedure is just terrible, and so is side...

    Advice to Management

Please take advice from your staff. I understand your hands are tied when it comes to certain issues but here's my onion: #1 Most people don't want to be there. Please just cut them early and let others make money. There is no incentive to closing when "everyone" else closes with you. #2 Please give people breaks. I wouldn't be surprised if you started getting calls and investigations from the department. There...

I worked at Not Your Average Joes full-time for less than a year

    Pros

50% Discount on food when not at work, free kids meals when at work.

    Cons

As a server you will find yourself working for free most of the summer and late spring, the fall time is worth it most of the time but the other 8 months of the year its so slow. For example on a lunch I will be scheduled at 10:30, spend the first hour working min wage which is 9 in mass. but will make $35, i will walk with $25.00 because I owe the bartenders and busser all together 4% of my sales. lets do the...

    Advice to Management

Understand that your servers aren't making money when it's slow, cut back on the sidework stop always siding with the guests

I have been working at Not Your Average Joes full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Everyone I work with is really supportive. Especially when I was just starting out (as a server), the other servers, managers, and even some of the kitchen staff frequently asked how I was doing and if I needed help with anything. It was really nice to know that I could always ask if I had a question or was having trouble managing my tasks. The management really emphasizes the importance of the guests and their experience,...

    Cons

It is very fast paced and you'll never really get a chance to sit down, so you can expect sore feet, especially if you work a double. I haven't worked there for very long yet, but it does seem to take some time and effort to get the amount of hours I want (full time). Management seems to not want to overwhelm you, and you have to prove to them that you want to work and are a good server who will take care of the customers...

    Advice to Management

I do wish the schedule came out more than one week in advance. I don't see how it benefits anybody to go just one week at a time, and it's hard to make plans on Sunday, for example, when you only know what you're doing through Wednesday.
