I have been working at Notre Dame full-time

    Pros

    Nice faculty, available and helpful.

    Cons

Everything has gone worse, housing, health care and stipend structure.

    Advice to Management

You are insane to put profit over your grad student! By privatizing housing in the crappy area that you are located, you are actively trying to lower the quality of your future students. You should fire the people leading in housing, you are cookie cutting your future.

A lot of jobs held due to the school honoring time committed, not necessarily the ability to do the job

I worked at Notre Dame full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Beautiful campus, daily Mass, good benefits, Christmas shutdown that doesn’t count against your vacation. ND will be around for a long time. The students are great. Lots of events on campus.

    Cons

Staff pay is usually okay, but not great. Raises have been low (2% or less). Parking is the big joke. HR is not great. A big problem is that some faculty are given supervisory responsibilities over staff, but they are not trained nor evaluated on supervision. Plus they rotate out, usually after 3 years, so just when they finally figure things out, they leave, and you start over again with someone who knows next to nothing. HR has no control over faculty, only staff, so staff are treated differently from faculty in a lot of ways. Lots of construction on campus, but new buildings have windows that don’t open and thermostats that can’t be adjusted. Maintenance and custodial staff are stretched thin.

    Advice to Management

There are other universities that refuse to allow faculty to supervise staff, so it can be done. HR needs to consider this or continue to lose good staff.
