I worked at Novant Health full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very nice facility, appropriate nurse to patient ratio, great benefits, competitive pay, good coworkers, teamwork, great education reimbursement

    Cons

Lots of cliques, some of the nurses there were really cool and friendly, kind of like high school with the cliques, no suggestions for improvement for the department were ever seriously considered or implemented, outdated equipment, favoritism in making out assignments was a problem

    Advice to Management

Treat every employee equally, regardless of your personal feelings towards them. It was very apparent there that only certain nurses got to work in better assignments. That needs to end. It really affects morale on the unit and it doesn't allow other nurses to be challenged or utilized. If you have a situation come up with a staff member that you are unfamiliar with try to be as empathetic and caring as possible. Don't make snap judgments about your staff. Give everyone the benefit of the doubt. Don't gossip at the charge desk. Also, don't try to play the race card while you're in the middle of discussion with one of your employees

    Pros

The teamwork and bonds made at Novant will last forever. Everyone is friendly and will tell you the truth with asked. The environment is clean and you are respected as an individual.

    Cons

Upward mobility is possible, you just have to get through the slow HR process. HR seems to be overloaded and does not do a proper screening of candidates.

I have been working at Novant Health full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The benefits are pretty good and they give you incentive HRA dollars for being in healthy ranges. The dental and vision are also pretty good.

    Cons

I work in the Northern Virginia area of the company and the pay is terrible for the front office staff. Plus, raises are not based on performance, they are based on company wide increases every 2 years. It also takes a very long time for the hiring process so even if your office is severely understaffed, it takes months to get someone into the position and even then, the training takes a very long time just to get employees the access they need to actually do their job.

    Advice to Management

The pay in the Northern Virginia area needs to be increased for front office staff. The hiring process needs to be changed to get employees into positions at a faster pace. A lot of very good, loyal, hard working employees are leaving because they are being overworked due to being short staffed and underpaid. There are positions in this area with other companies that offer comparable benefits with better pay and are not severely under staffed. This company is supposed to work towards healthcare goals but are actually causing their employees health to suffer by overworking, over stressing, and under paying their employees.

    Pros

Fantastic employee support. Training is comprehensive. HR policies gracious. Environment supportive. Benefit package comprehensive and has relatively low employee cost.
