I worked at Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Novartis is dedicated to not only continued challenges for creativeness and efficiency, but also to communication and open-mindedness. People, systems and environment are always at their best and improving.

    Cons

There are no cons to working at Novartis. Everyone I have worked with at Novartis are part of an experience that is original in its own right, and among other things, dedicated to making communities across the world better.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the terrific work.

I have been working at Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Employees, President and all the way down the line - everyone is seems to be happy here. They recognize and reward their staff. Ice cream Tuesdays in the summer, bonuses, pension plan...
They have a nurse on staff.

    Cons

Some Admins are hired as a contractor and never seem to get hired permanently.
    Too many software systems.

    Advice to Management

Hire the contractors who are good! Don't leave them hanging. Especially in the IT area. They have great people; but all hired as contract workers and all end up being a contractor for over two years.

    Pros

Great talent pool, innovative mindset, optimistic attitudes. The community of scientists is very intelligent - easy to find like minded colleagues. People are interested to discuss new ideas. If you find the right group of people who support your ideas, you can get a lot done.

    Cons

Some snobbish attitudes. have to be from the "Ivy" to get automatic credibility. Everybody else has to earn it. "visibility" is a must for being promoted.

    Advice to Management

Look beyond the surface when assessing leadership capabilities. Be serious about performance management. Promote women and minorities into leadership roles.
