I worked at Novartis Pharmaceuticals as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Easy work , guaranteed 40 hours, helps with your social skills . The staffing company really put time and energy into keeping you updated with your performance .

    Cons

No oppurtunies to "actually move up" . They sale you a dream for about a good six months ,and when conversion time rolls around ,they hire who they want .not because of "work ethics", but because of favoritism . It's cool to work here if you are just looking for something quick but please do not try to make this into a career you won't get far the most you will get paid is 14 bucks that's After conversion. Starting pay it 10 dollars with no raises .and they can let you go behind other people's B.S .

    Advice to Management

Really Really check into the production floors ,it's alot of illegal things going on down there ,you guys have become too lenient . So theres ALOT of things happening that you guys can get sued behind , and in fact foreclosed . Also check into your supervisors that's allowing it to go on .

I worked at Novartis Pharmaceuticals full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Cafeteria on site with hot food, nice parking lot, nice clean facility, good pay, good 401k, bravo points, yearly shutdown, nice people

    Cons

Where do I start? Awful middle management, most supervisors are terrible. So much work you can't finish in 11 hours. If they see you are good they keep giving more to do. A lot of favourtism . Other people get hired at higher pay brackets but they have much less experience. Someone should look at this

    Advice to Management

Please look at the management and see how corrupt it really is here

    Pros

The idea of work from home was nice until you realize they just take it away.

    Cons

Contractors are treated like garbage. Can't use the gym, can't go to an office party or eat pizza that was ordered for everyone because you are a contractor. Managers don't even look at you or speak to you like you're not human.
There is next to no chance of Novartis ever making you one of their employees. Contracting agency then takes most of your money and you make very little.
No training or career growth at all and all contractors have noncompetes....so Novartis won't even hire a contractor because of the noncompete you wee forced to accept to even work there.
Not much diversity or fair treatment of contractors.
Basically made to feel worthless if you are a contractor. Mangers all have stay at home wives while they expect you to work all the time and not have a life of your own.

    Advice to Management

Stop abusing visa loopholes and outsourcing

    Pros

Compensation...they pay well but you earn every penny and then some.

    Cons

You are just a number....and the infrastructure stinks. For a big company, the process and systems is the worst I have ever seen.

    Advice to Management

Take better care of your people....they are the company.

I have been working at Novartis Pharmaceuticals full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

When it was Sandoz, it was a fun place to work. The current culture really is toxic. One thing you can count on is that you will see many layoffs. However, certain people are untouchable. There used to be a pension, etc.

    Cons

Work life balance was non existent. There are many cons to Novartis. The Performance Evaluation process changes like the wind. If you are really good at creative writing, you will do well with the year end and mid year review.

    Advice to Management

In the last 4 years, you cut 4,000 sales people, with more cuts coming. You implemented a new "culture" 2 years ago that included white leather couches at the first management meeting. You hired a new division for a new psoriasis product and hired almost all from outside the company. A few people were hired from inside and were told it was a "Lateral move" with no raise, yet at the same time hire people from outside for much more money. Yet, upper management collects gross amounts of pay while cutting people and ruining lives. Sit back, take a look at what you created. You should be ashamed.

    Pros

used to be benefits, but not any longer

    Cons

micro management, lack of SOPs and process guidance. No integrity in the drug development process. Individual departments work like a CRO, trying to please their customers while violating SOPs, FDA guidelines and ICH.

    Advice to Management

make a decision are you a pharma company or a health care company..
