I have been working at Novartis Pharmaceuticals full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The colleagues on my team are pretty awesome.

    Cons

Systems are archaic. Processes are out-dated. Training comes from people who haven't monitored in ages. Upper management makes decisions that put the department at risk. Direct management is lacking. I do not receive direct line support. Our team basically checks in with each other for guidance.
Many studies are unorganized. There is no start-up process. Study Managers fight with internal and external vendors over access because no one knows the process.
I could go on but I am not sure what my character limit is.
I would end with I have many years of research experience at several Sponsors. I do not feel I fit in here.

    Advice to Management

Considering Clinical Research was brought in a couple of years ago after being completely managed by CRO, there should have been a bridge while proper, experienced personnel was (could be) hired.
Management needs to understand what designates a Senior CRA from an Expert CRA and why.
Management needs to re-evaluate their training department and how training is rolled out. It is disjointed and confusing.
Upper management needs to find direct managers who are professional, courteous and motivates their teams.
Management needs to come up with a better way to determine the workload of their teams. It doesn't seem as though my manager knows what we do on a daily basis, yet we are easily deemed "the least productive" member of the team.
The EDC platform is the oldest I have seen in decades. A new CTMS was just rolled out but as you can guess...no one really knows what is going on with it. Issues galore.

I worked at Novartis Pharmaceuticals full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits and full of nice people who work hard.
    Vacation time
    Healthcare is the best
Flexible work, possibility of being decentralized.

    Cons

If you are unlucky your job will get outsourced to one of the low ethics H1B shop like India based Syntel. I even suspect that Syntel people are using unethical methods like quoting low prices and then making money by resorting to fake billing. If management looks around I’m certain they would find something.

    Advice to Management

You should not encourage pure H1B shops, they can’t be good for the company in the long term.

I worked at Novartis Pharmaceuticals (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Competitive salary, compensation, benefits, really exciting pipeline, most of the people I worked with were fantastic.

    Cons

Management took advantage of so many people. It made me sick to see good people thrown under the bus or put in unfair positions or underpaid after being promised so much more or not getting credit for doing the work of 3 people. It became blood money to work there. I never regretted leaving for 1 minute.

    Advice to Management

Your employees are not pawns in a game. Show them some respect.
