I have been working at Novartis Pharmaceuticals (More than 10 years)

    Pros

East Hanover campus is very employee friendly with many very nice amenities. Management is typically open to listening to employee ideas and suggestions. Tech Ops is consolidating across divisions which will cause complication in short term, but long term opens more opportunities.

    Cons

Company is going through much change, driven centrally from Basel Headquarters. Support functions are being squeezed to fund other parts of business.

    Advice to Management

For such an established company, I would expect there to be more standards in terms of career development and hiring from within the company. Still a bit of who you know in order to get the next promotion.

    Pros

They provided good benefits and opportunity for advancement. They strived to be a good corporate citizen.

    Cons

Had all the trappings of a huge corporation from bureaucracy to micromanagement. It was difficult for them to respond to market threats and opportunities.

    Pros

All the benefits of working with a solid company. People here are good colleagues and will try to help you.

    Cons

Can be difficult to advance due to being such a large company. Be patient and network if interested in advancing

    Advice to Management

Field sales varies by regions. Foolish to continue selling in same fashion we did 20 yrs ago

I worked at Novartis Pharmaceuticals (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Nice work environment, room for growth, very good medical benefits.

    Cons

Working with manager and having to role play with clients. Pharmaceutical companies should already know working with manager on office visits is worthless, since clients as well as reps are playing a part to satisfy management.

    Advice to Management

Realize working with your representatives out in the field is a joke. Clients don't care to have you at their office, and calls are nothing more than a dramatization of what pharmaceutical companies want you to do.

    Pros

Salary was decent, but the threat of a shutdown was always there. Suffern NY had very poor leadership at the Director level, leading to major issues.

    Cons

Poor decisions, wasted lots of money. They wanted 60 hours a week and Saturdays for salary folks

    Advice to Management

Too late, lets see what plant is next, maybe MP?
