I worked at Novato Unified School District as a contractor

    Pros

Wonderful support, great staff members, wonderful parents and community leaders

    Cons

The scope of the district can cause funds to get spread too thin. Change in retirement packages also negatively impacts staff who has served the district for most of their lives.

I worked at Novato Unified School District (More than a year)

    Pros

Interesting range of student and families
Teachers and support staff have integrity and truly care

    Cons

Very top down management do not want to hear from teachers how implementation of their new ideas is going particularly is there are challenges.
Pay is worst in Marin County
Teachers may be pushed to work in environments grossly lacking safety protections, using minimal equipment, very outdated textbooks

    Advice to Management

Try to recognize the atmosphere you project out to your employees. If it is coming out as hostile, you need to reconsider the message you are sending out. IT is very difficult to work in such an environment.

I have been working at Novato Unified School District part-time

    Pros

I enjoy my co-workers and their knowledge and passion for teaching. Every teacher cares for the students they teach. They are also willing to change and adapt to new school methods and technology.

    Cons

It sometimes feels like the district puts the cart before the horse when implementing new policies or methods. There is inequity between schools, which only seems to be getting worse.
