I worked at Novella Clinical full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits, multitude of good and friendly people, work life balance is valued, small rewarding employee focused activities. Great overall company and I would return if current dept management left or to work in a different dept Most people here truly love their jobs.

    Cons

Hostile environment created by dept management and inspite of high turnover and numerous complaints, management still reigns. Some processes are a little outdated compared to other CROs. PMs have very little accountability behind the scenes.

    Advice to Management

HR and Upper Management has to be held liable when multiple people who are belittled, degraded and treated poorly speak up and report this behavior.

    Pros

Highly thorough SOPs with assessments, especially detailed lengthy training into their systems.

    Cons

Management was allowed to speak to me as rudely as they pleased upon hire. Shady practices surrounding contract assignments and the contracts not being genuine after your hire date. Once I was hired, everything changed from pleasant to a nightmare. The management there is allowed to dictate whether or not you get paid for hours you honestly worked and put down on your time sheet - if they don't want to pay you - they won't. It is totally up to their discretion. It seems like the management there has favorites and runs off ANYONE else, even if they are a great employee. In addition to this, the IT problems are magnanimous and the IT department is NEVER THERE... no one responds to email OR phone. It could take days...

    Advice to Management

To Senior Management: Stop allowing "some" of your middle management personnel to run off your good employees and contractors. You need to be aware they are making life hell for them so they will leave or they can get them canned. You are losing good people, but maybe you want it that way - a lot of the other reviews here say the very same thing. Your new hires are being abused.

I worked at Novella Clinical full-time

    Pros

Not many besides good pay, good benefits, short new employee orientation, always providing food for employees.

    Cons

WFH was determined by management but company claims to offer across the board. My manager only allowed it if you had legitimate excuse. My manager wanted "yes men". My manager talked negatively about every other department and was not a team player with them. My manager was unreasonable with time off even if asked in advance. It was best to just call out sick. Other managers told me that I picked the worst manager to come work for.

    Advice to Management

Offer more uniformity. Don't allow managers to dictate basic work life balance. Listen to employees not just management.

I have been working at Novella Clinical full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Wonderful culture. When you work at Novella you feel like you are part of a family. There are lots of recognition programs and small company perks that larger companies tend to get rid of as they grow. Richard Staub sets the tone for the company. He really cares about his people.

    Cons

Some departments struggle with career progression. As the company gets bigger an individual's ability to make an impact is minimized.

Work/Life balance is one of the big selling points for Novella; however, they have taken on so much new work that recently this is not a possibility. Working long hours and weekends is becoming more the norm than the exception.

There is also confusion when it comes to IT support. There are two separate help desks, so you never know who to call and you can get bounced between them when they fight out whose job it is to help an end user. That can be frustrating for all involved.

    Advice to Management

Ensure that all departments have career progression and a competency path with training for employees to follow. Allow hiring in the non-billable/support departments as well as billable departments. As the company grows, all departments need to grow with it. Put both help desks under one manager with call center experience.
