I worked at Novo Nordisk full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The Novo Way are the principles that all employees and management are expected to work toward. Management assures a respectful and ethical working environment. I have worked for Novo Nordisk for 20 years and have seen tremendous growth within the Diabetes therapeutic Area. The culture is very positive. Novo Nordisk also attracts strong technical talent in Denmark as well as in the United States. Novo is not afraid to move forward on large IT projects.

    Cons

It is important to remember that Novo Nordisk is a Danish Company and project leadership responsibility is centered in head quarters. There is also a strong push to outsource functions to India to save costs. Some of these functions may seem to be local in nature - for example accounts receivables. USA field staff may be immune to these activities.

    Advice to Management

Be responsive to local markets by empowering local business units to make the decisions needed to grow the business and support local physicians.

Ownership structure reduces likelihood of M&A

Commitment to internal talent development is strong - they like to hire from within

    Cons

Denmark left them alone while they were successful, now taking more direct control
Recent layoffs changed the culture, will be unsettled for quite a while
Two year plus financial forecast is flat - reducing/controlling cost will be a priority for a while
Decision-making slow and involves a lot of people
