I have been working at Novo Nordisk full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    401K, 3 weeks starting vacation

    Cons

Competency is not a deciding factor in hiring/promotion. Site Clayton is essentially a buddy network where your next position depends on your willingness to be molded into a political puppet. The managers and supervisors provide no transparency due to the fact it would allude to their scheme of putting certain things/people into the place they desire. Business is no longer booming and now they are attempting to run their processes barebones via under-staffing. The human element of site Clayton has been removed and it is now a numbers game. You have supervisors trying to please managers that have unreal expectations who are also under extreme pressure to please SLT's unattainable goals. The nostalgia of this company is gone and all of the favors given out to the wrong employees for the wrong reasons have finally caught up. My best advice to any newcomers is to either avoid this place in its entirety or come in ready to politic. Your 8-12 hour days will consist of trying to pull the knife out of your back before you get home to your family. Also don't bother running a criminal background check on your group of peers because it will open your eyes to see they they are simply looking for "yes mans" to pay minimally and break their backs for job security.

    Advice to Management

I simply cannot give advice that isn't wanted. You cannot give genuine advice to those with closed ears and tainted minds. Just continue people pleasing and making sure your whiteboards are updated every morning.

I have been working at Novo Nordisk full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

As always, patients are the focus. There are some some really good colleagues and a lot of work to do. Benefits and perks are still solid.

    Cons

Where is the leadership? Lots of people in leader roles but no authentic leadership. Normally open doors are now closed. Power trips and vanishing employees every day.

    Advice to Management

Hold yourself to the same standard as you do with the rank and file. See who really stands up to the scrutiny.

I have been working at Novo Nordisk full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The benefits are great! I love being on shift work because of the free time during the week! The cafe is good and very reasonably priced.

    Cons

Dislike sharing of tasks between shifts.
Dislike inability to flex onto other large learning areas if it's not part of your direct role, however the plant is growing.

    Advice to Management

Although there is a no blame culture people do need to be held responsible for their actions in order to improve overall collaboration.

I have been working at Novo Nordisk full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Nice building, cubes and offices
    - Free gym with quality machines
    - Subsidized healthy food options at the cafeteria
    - Some genuinely passionate and intelligent people

    Cons

    - Very political. People rise and fall depending on who they are aligned to, not the work that they do
    - I've seen countless colleagues leave the company because they couldn't get a promotion, then be replaced by an outside higher at a higher title.
    - Horrible work life balance, made worse by the fact that working hard gets you nowhere
    - Management's attitude on work/life balance is that it is your own fault if you work late or can't take all of your vacation days.
    - Denmark HQ ships managers to to do a US stint. These drive-by managers have no investment in the long term success and culture in NJ.
    - Conservative Danish attitude to EVERYTHING kills innovation
    - There are seemingly hundreds of people director level and above who don't do anything at all other than attend meetings
    - HR department is a joke. Walk by their offices and they're all online shopping all day. Employee benefits have been cut to save a few million dollars, without factoring in the cost of not being able to attract talent anymore. Very few business minded people in HR. There is a brain drain at Novo, as the highly intelligent/motivated people are moving to Boston/San Fran where companies understand the ROI on good benefits

    Advice to Management

    - Reward the people who actually work. Promote from within instead of hiring middle managers who were fired by other companies
    - Stop shipping Danish managers to the US just so that they can add a line to their resume
    - Being "on-par" in terms of salary and benefits is not good enough. Novo should strive to stand out, not blend in
    - HR leadership needs to be gutted and the Novo culture that used to exist needs to be restored

I worked at Novo Nordisk full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Good rate of facility expansion/growth leading to possible opportunities in the future
    - Healthy emphasis on improving company principles to match current company
    - Supportive cast of co-workers

    Cons

    - Isolated area
    - Lingering mentality of old corporations impeding progress towards newer, healthier environment
    - Tendency to play "positional favorites" - funnel benefits to some employees, while overlooking others consistentnly

    Advice to Management

Although positive progress is being made, really try to work on ensuring all employees are receiving a uniform standard of treatment

I worked at Novo Nordisk full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The current reps in Akron are not good people. The reps are dishonest and insecure. In 20 years of working in Sales I have never worked with such low quality people as these folks.

    Cons

The reps, managers and regional business director in the Akron have created a culture of distrust, negativity and talking about people behind his/her backs.

    Advice to Management

Clean house in Ohio. Novo Nordisk's reputation is becoming one of the worst in the industry.

I have been working at Novo Nordisk full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Novo Nordisk Clayton has a pretty good 401 K program with 8% contribution to employees.

    Cons

They use to have great medical benefits but not they recently changed and are no longer competitive is comparison to other employers. the culture change has resulted in an environment of fear. Lack of clarity in policy, everything changes to compensate leaderships decision even if it is described in the SOP. Training program is poor, relys on "on the fly on the job training." There created a standard but it is impossible to follow the training standard and also support operations. HR tends to favor the best interest of management instead of the company. One of the Novo Nordisk way is personal development. But the only way to develop your self at Novo Nordisk is by deleloping "yourself" outside of novo Nordisk. Do not rely on this company to help with the development. It is difficult to get promoted within unless you are a part of the "core group" within the company.

    Advice to Management

At the rate Novo Nordisk Clayton is going, this plant will be going down. Stop hiding and ignoring both Quality and management issues. SLT need is to open there eyes and see what is going on with the culture. No one is happy. It's hard to see because they are to afraid to loss their jobs. Change the fear culture and more people will provide feedback from the bottom up to make this work environment great.
