I worked at NuVasive full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

NuVasive offers innovative products and a great clinical experience for its customers. In addition, the sales product enablement is pretty good relative to many other companies.

    Cons

Sales leadership is very disconnected from what happens at the rep level. There is this belief that territories should be "run like businesses," which sounds good in theory, except when it's taken too literally by lower level management. Local managers are very P & L focused and are uncertain how to actually deliver positive impact to their reps and physician customers.

    Advice to Management

You need to become connect very closely with your reps and their customers. Competitors have leadership highly engaged with physicians and the physicians notice this, which is a negative impact to your reps.

I have been working at NuVasive (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Fellow shareowners are awesome, Pat Miles is the man. I enjoy working for a company that wants (wanted) to make a difference in patient's lives and influence spine surgery for the better.

    Cons

Morale sucks. HR has no grasp on how dire the situation is becoming or how bad it could get. They want managers to focus on employee retention but have recently done away with vacation accrual for salaried employees - DID NOT take care of those with large hours accrued after years of dedicated service. Merit increases / bonuses were an absolute joke this year (barely a COLA increase). They don't address anything, unless getting an email with a positive spin and fluffy language counts as getting in the trenches with your shareowners.

    Advice to Management

Improve incentives and work/life balance. Make HR have the HUMAN factor - we aren't brainwashed cult members. The purple kool-aid needs more sugar added...
Pat Miles leaves and half the building will be gone with him. Good people are leaving left and right for reasons that can be avoided and/or changed. Stop promoting people who do nothing, while ignoring others that bust tail day in and day out. The IT department has recently had huge turnover - upper management is the problem, not the actual laborers. Higher management is cutting people that are seasoned and the lifeline of this company - big mistake.

    Pros

Coworkers, NOT MANAGEMENT, are nice to work with, occasional weekend work, plenty of overtime if you need it.

    Cons

Compensation rivals McDonald employees, the research has been done. You are constantly volunteered by management to do more work for less pay, pay scale is a joke, your hard work isn't rewarded, when you mess up you get promoted or a random raise, mangers don't contribute anything but take credit for everything. Big bonuses to managers but nickels and dimes to the people actually doing work. When employees get fed up they leave and when upper management looks down on why the turnover rate is so high, it's covered up by blaming the employee and making it seem like they got fired. Disgusting, spineless, cowards.

    Advice to Management

You're going to loose a lot more of good people if this trend doesn't stop. Replace the real bad apples (putting sitting in their butts all day), and something might change.

    I worked at NuVasive full-time

    Pros

Pay and Benefits are okay and most of the employees are nice to work with.

    Cons

The company expects you to sell your soul to them. The managers have an expectation that you should be up reading emails at 2am, Ridiculous! My manager actually check to see if I had donated to a charitable cause the company was pushing all the employees to donate to. When he mistakenly didn't see my donation, he decided to discuss it with me during my employee review! I was appalled as my donation was supposed to be anonymous. I had a very difficult time respecting some of the executive there because of there antics. The Chief Patent Counsel stood inebriated in a wine and cheese cocktail party while I was there talking about how he was important because he was wealthy and later making fun of the president of the companies "big nose".

    Advice to Management

Fire the lot of the remaining hold outs since Alex Lukianov was removed as CEO. They are a cancer, that if allowed to grow will ruin the new regime.

I worked at NuVasive (More than 5 years)

    Pros

This was a great company to work for with very strong ethics and integrity, even with the change over of executive management company. I believe the company as a whole still looks to do the right thing for it's employees

    Cons

Because company is detached from corporate company has taken on a face of it's own and not necessarily looking to do what's best for company rather keeping friends around. This is becoming more and more obvious with how good people are leaving the company both voluntarily and involuntarily.

    Advice to Management

Please be aware as much as I love this company I could not in good conscience recommend for employment until you take a good hard look at what's going on in Memphis with the turn over rate there, this is not good for any company especially when it's good people that are leaving

    Pros

Opportunity to learn how to integrate acquisitions and open new subsidaries in new foreign markets,.

    Cons

Long work hours, short staffed, pressure to always be friendly and positive posed the risk of ignoring larger problems.

    Advice to Management

Get comfortable with learning from mistakes, moving at cheetah speed does'nt always allow for accuracy 100% of the time.

I have been working at NuVasive full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Competitive Benefits, good pay, on-site gym with trainers. Used to have a great ESPP program however that's changing.

    Cons

The current state of IT is a disaster. Sr IT management has no clue what they are doing and in the process wasting company money. Unfortunately the Executive who oversees IT is not doing anything to prevent this. Recent new hires have been based on who they know and not what they know, its basically a good old boy system.
If you are considering joining the NuVasive IT department, think twice.

    Advice to Management

Sr. IT Management needs to go, they are ruining the investment NuVasive has made in IT. The longer you allow them to continue, the more money its going to cost to fix it when they do leave.
Practice what you preach, the hypocrisy is rampant.
