    Pros

Substantive Benefits when considering the size of the company such as stock options, decent health insurance, bonuses, pet insurance, 401(k) etc.
Fun environment with lots of employee events with free food, drinks, activities.
    Free snacks and drinks.
    Younger more energetic work force.

    Cons

At the time, there was a habit at the company to engage in divisive rumors.
Competitive nature of the employees leads to decision making that is not always team-oriented.
Abusive relationships between Managers and Direct Reports were tolerated.
Unethical requests, requests that when brought to senior management were disregarded.
Pay is usually below the industry and region standard.
HR team is dishonest and consistently very incompetent. (routinely unable to meet deadlines, answer simple questions or schedule interviews)
High turn over -RAQA has a turn over rate near 40% while other departments are relatively high considering industry standards.

    Advice to Management

Developing a functional HR department with high ethical standards would be a big start. Investing in higher wages and less fringe benefits would help with turn over.
The company needs more cross-trained staff to prevent the build-up of tribal knowledge which is contained exclusively in the minds of a few individuals.
Emphasis professionalism and on teams instead of individuals.

I have been working at NuVasive full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Business casual w jeans, on site cafe, free healthy snacks, gym available. Seems to be plenty of parking, most people are friendly.

    Cons

Culture is going down hill and finishing fast. Not much room to advance. Managers don't seem to care about personal development of their employees. No one is held accountable for their actions. Seems as though the atmosphere is "every man for them self" now. The energy in both buildings is at a real low for the past year.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your people. You're only as good as the weakest link on your team.

I worked at NuVasive full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - strong, knowledgeable executive team
    - 401K match
    - relaxed dress code
    - free snacks and coffee

    Cons

    - relatively low compensation compared to the work load
    - depending on your team, culture and management style varies
    - quick to judge, you will soon know if you fit in the team or not. and in the case you don't, you will find that exit door faster than you expect
    - turnover rate is high.

All in all, your experience at Nuvasive will depend a lot on the team you are hired into, In my case, all team members worked independently and in the beginning, you'll spend a lot of time figuring things out yourself.

Management is usually clueless on what exactly they are looking for, which translates to frequent revisions or in some cases, entire overhaul of the project. A lot of time is wasted on explaining methods and convincing managers, who are in their position solely based on the years they've worked there, and have no technical abilities and lack direction (13 years with the company, does not know how to zoom in on Excel spreadsheets).

This is the observation I made based on my two years employment at the company. Be advised, unless miracles happen, you will be in your initial role for a very long time, upwards movement is scarce and you'll find yourself doing the same thing for years. At the end I found a much larger company and am now able to make clear distinctions.

    Advice to Management

Hire competent team leaders who are experienced in their team's function. Duration at the company should not be the basis of seniority.

    Pros

Managment is always open to new ideas and implements them if it saves the company money and makes our job easier.Very good time off policies.

    Cons

Things i see that need improvement are, no 401K match, no pension plan, the pay is laughable compared to other medical companies in the memphis area.Great place to work if thats all you all looking for in a job.

    Advice to Management

If you are going play with the Big Gorrilla, then you need to pay like the Big Gorrilla .There is way to much employee turnover and pay is the reason I hear the most for people leaving the company.

I have been working at NuVasive full-time

    Pros

Fun activities (team events, Cheetah Ball, fundraising, etc.) and good fitness programs (onsite classes, running club, softball). Also a young and innovative team with a lot of generation X and Y'ers.

    Cons

Management is top heavy. A lot of employees have a manager title even if they aren't managing anyone or anything. And the managers that do have direct reports have not been trained well, so they end up making the problem worse.

There is room for growth and learning, only so far as taking on more work, having longer hours, and not necessarily getting fairly compensated for the extra workload. The culture breeds contempt and a feeling of mass superiority over other organizations (no matter who they are). More emphasis seems to be put on "hating" on competitors (even the CEO does this quite often) than focusing on the task at hand and growing camaraderie within the organization. The result is childish banter that often leads to frenetic activity instead of productivity.

    Advice to Management

Focus less on "them" and more on "us". Level out the organization so you have enough individual contributors to do the work, versus only managers who want to be high level and not in the details.

I worked at NuVasive full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great ideas around culture. Some really invested employees. Great health benefits and pay for performance culture. Nice facilities including gym and cafe.

    Cons

Seemingly annual promotions for upper management while the rest wait promotion cycles. Inconsistent treatment across teams in similar functions. If you're not in the inner circle your opportunities will be limited.

    Advice to Management

Recognize the hard work of those at the lower levels.

    Pros

Great Culture, focus on fitness and health
    Comparatively better salaries
Learn about Spine Surgery and Products irrespective of Department you work in.

    Cons

Strict work schedule (e.g. You will be required to work even during harsh weather conditions)
Strict competition from already well established spine companies and new companies
Poor Management at Memphis location. New leadership, don't know what they are doing

    Advice to Management

    1. Improve the key leadership skills in Memphis
2.Introdce 401K in addition to Stock options

I have been working at NuVasive full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Technology is great. If you like medical device development, you'll have lots of interesting and challenging problems to solve.

    Cons

Overworked, underpaid. Way too many hours. Lots of wasted effort.

    Advice to Management

Don't try to make a team of stars. Rather create a solid team where everybody has a specific job, not do-it-all people.
