I worked at Nucor-Yamato Steel as an intern (More than 3 years)

    Pros

All employees will be taken care of very well
    No layoffs
    Excellent financial compensation
    Great leadership
Overall great company with great success
    Advancement opportunities
    Safety is a chief concern

    Cons

Blytheville is not the greatest place to live. Surrounding areas offer better living but the commute is obviously longer.
If you aren't in a an office job, the work environment can be stressful, hot, and dangerous.

I have been working at Nucor-Yamato Steel full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Family atmosphere
    Organic career moves
    Flat management structure
    Resources for continued learning

This company will do anything for you if you make the effort to better yourself. Their resources are infinite and you can tap into them easily by only asking.

    Cons

    Very little time-off
    old fashioned 8-5 work week
    no OT compensation
    no comp-time of any sort

Behind the times when it comes to the treatment of professionals/salaried employees. Behind the times when it comes to technology. Very little organization on the IT front which causes quite the headache.

    Advice to Management

Get with the times when it comes to how you treat your professionals.
More time off, real comp-time, etc.

Strong profitable growing company with other locations to consider transferring to.

    Cons

Blytheville, AR is not very desirable to some.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work in leadership and management. Try to make promotions and career advancement more transparent.

I have been working at Nucor-Yamato Steel full-time

    Pros

Great Family oriented company. Cares about the people and management strives to put others before themselves. Challenging work - great reward. "If it don't cost you much, it ain't worth much."

    Cons

It's hot hot hot. Winter will become your favorite season.

    Advice to Management

Keep training your people for advancement and pushing decision making down. Teams that are engaged in the decision making process are vested in the outcome and will give whatever amount of effort is required to see them through.

I have been working at Nucor-Yamato Steel full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Excellent place to work. Employee driven company with excellent benefits package and above average pay. Pay is based in based on production bonus.

    Cons

Really hard to say anything negative about NYS but if I had to then it would be that the 12 hour rotating shifts are hard to get accustomed to.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work of always putting the customers needs first. The emphasis that is put on employee safety is above average and is really appreciated by the employees.

I have been working at Nucor-Yamato Steel full-time

    Pros

Very little micromanaging in most jobs, from what I can see. Office hours are relatively flexible and there are many benefits (PTO, comp days, etc.)

    Cons

A little hard to change things that have always been a certain way. However, it seems as though Nucor Corporate has encouraged many changes as of late.

    Advice to Management

Continue allowing your employees to branch out, and actively encourage those who may not have a specific career goal with the company in mind.

I have been working at Nucor-Yamato Steel full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great work ethic. Nice and honest people. Great pay. Great safety culture with management that truly cares about individuals.

    Cons

None really when everything is put in perspective.

    Advice to Management

Read Iverson's book again and follow it to a "T". Iverson's philosophy (and management style) will keep Nucor strong while other companies continue to wither due to conventional business practices (like those taught in colleges by professors whom never made a dime of profit).
