I have been working at Nutro Products part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Tips are real good and could make more than any minimum payed job. Hours are not as long as a full time job but still make more money.

    Cons

People could be rude and your checks are very small depend a lot on tips and that you average above the minimum wage so that it's worth your time

    Advice to Management

Working with your employees will make your job so much easier helping them when they need it and they will help you also

I worked at Nutro Products full-time

    Pros

Nutro was an amazing company that was bought by Mars. After Mars bought us we went through many changes. Overall they took care of people they kept and were generous to those they let go.

    Cons

Mars is a very "Northeastern" culture which didn't mesh with the Nutro "Southwestern" culture so a lot of people were let go during the transition.
The Mars way is all about the position. To some degree people are cogs in a machine that they have to keep moving.
Office politics, I'm not a fan but if you are, more power to you!

    Advice to Management

There are other ways to manage people. People (and their personalities) are more important than processes. You turned a $800 million brand into a$250 million brand because you didn't understand the power of relationship... and made your best asset (your sales team) into your worst enemy. Try avoiding that in the future.

I worked at Nutro Products full-time

    Pros

The Nutro Company produces excellent products for pets. I still feed my pets Nutro even though I am no longer employed there. There are some really great, talented employees (oops, I mean "associates") there. I loved bringing my dog to work with me. There are a good amount of perks and extras for Mars employees.

    Cons

There was constant talk of engagement but in the end no one was really listening. It was like running on a hamster wheel and getting nowhere. Despite constant negative feedback, the same issues prevailed and kept myself and fellow talented employees from our potential . A few reasonable changes could have made this a wonderful place to work, but in the end I was always frustrated and micro- managed. My experience with line management was absolutely terrible. The open work environment was also very weird to me.

    Pros

Lots of training available. Mars is a great company to work for.

    Cons

It seems there is a revolving door at Nutro. I believe nearly every manager who transferred in from Mars has been fired.
The corporate office micro manages the plant.

    Advice to Management

    Let the managers manage.

I worked at Nutro Products part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Customer interaction and educating people about pet nutrition. If you live animals and animal lovers it was a great job.

    Cons

Have to work every weekend. Other than that, it was a good position. I would have worked full time but that wasn't an option in this position.

    Advice to Management

Don't outsource this job. Oh, it's too late. Already done.
