    I worked at NxStage full-time

    Pros

Good pay for little to no experience. Long training period. 4 months before you actually do any work.

    Cons

Poor product leading to frustrated end users which leads to tech support being company punching bag. Awful scheduling with rotating weekend shifts in exchange for days off mid-week. About to be bought out by bigger company with uncertain future. Employees were offered bonus if staying until merger.

    Advice to Management

No one wants a Tuesday off in exchange for working Saturday or Sunday. Stop micromanaging.

I have been working at NxStage full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

NxStage has a rather fancy work environment, at least looking from outside. It has grown very fast in the past few years. My experience is that outside of technical fields there seems to be good room for career advancement.

    Cons

The management is still holding on to the startup mentality. This has many drawbacks.

The other drawback is that the management is a bit too hung up on the compliance issues. Employees need to retrain on more than 30 SOP's every year (for the company) to demonstrate compliance. The majority of these have to do with finance, disclosure, foreign bribery aspects which for technical workers are very largely irrelevant as they rarely have any of those exposures, if at all (such as interacting with a physician, hospital requisition department, etc.)

    Advice to Management

Allocate real money on software development tools/environment: requirements management, revision control, issue tracking, static analysis, automated testing. Charge your software development and software quality engineering managers with serious capability building responsibilities.

I have been working at NxStage full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Good compensation and decent benefits.

    Cons

Quite a few employees are promoted to management based on length of employment and not experience of education. They are learning to be managers on the job through trial and error and that can be quite frustrating.

The office layout is very poorly designed. If you have an office with a door you are extremely lucky. If you are in a cube, it's different story. While some cubes offer privacy, many do not; therefore, you have to be able to deal with that, All cubes have low walls, so not only do you have zero privacy, but you have to learn to tolerate lots of distractions through out your day, such as people having meetings and being very vocal. The low walls are meant to foster communication, but if you are next to someone that you do not work closely with it does not meet that goal.

I work in an area where I see the employee near me surfing the internet for many hours (morning and afternoon). This employee has lots of time to shop online and check out Facebook. This employee also takes 90 minutes (sometimes longer) lunch breaks on a daily basis. This is due to minimal work and I find it to be a problem that management is not aware that this is going on.

    Advice to Management

It's a problem if you have a full=time employee who has less than 20 hours of work a week and plays all day long. Perhaps after the merger, Fresenius management will fix these kind of problems. It's what I am hoping for, otherwise, I'll be looking for new employment in the next year or so.
