I worked at Nyseg full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Working for a Utility had a great learning experience. Got to work in different power plant and learn many different things.

    Cons

Shift work was not the greatest. The 8 hour shifts were not good on my body and home life. Time off was very limited.

    Advice to Management

Train your people. Most supervisors have had many years working in a power plant. They should share there knowledge with the younger people.

I worked at Nyseg full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The benefits and pay are good.

    Cons

Management doesn't care about anyone in the call center, they don't hire enough people to handle incoming calls, you are reviewed on random calls and are expected to keep your stats up by keeping people on hold while you process things instead of providing good customer service, management is all about nepotism. Call center is dirty.

    Advice to Management

Look into your supervisors and how they make the job seem like middle school by having favorites and gossiping together, and making the environment very uncomfortable for those that they aren't "friends" with.

I have been working at Nyseg full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The pay is better than most jobs you can get around the southern Tier of New York with little to no specialized training. You get Holidays and weekends off. The benefits are also excellent.

    Cons

There is little to no room for advancement from the call center. The company will tell you otherwise, but the 'foot in the door' you keep hearing about when you work there is a foot in the door to nowhere. Moving around in the company will most likely mean moving around in the sate or moving out of the state. The company is not honest or fair about moving to better hours the longer you work there. Four groups of new hires received better hours than the group I was hired in before we were moved to an earlier shift. Company needs outweigh their promises to their employees. As with many call center jobs, the work itself is abusive. You need to develop a thick skin to deal with people yelling at you over the phone ever day.

    Advice to Management

Be more honest with what you have to offer your employees.

    Pros

Great staff to work with and interesting projects. Amazing control center and all HR needs are always taken care of.

    Cons

Interns can have slow days but that can be expected almost any where. Lots of bureaucratic hurdles to jump over with any project. Lots of security assessments to pass.

    Advice to Management

Hire younger people. The energy industry is in desperate need of new younger workers. 50 percent of the power industry is retiring in 3 years. Time to bring some new genes into the herd.

    Pros

    Outside work, contact with people

    Cons

Leadership does not like to answer questions. Leadership is not conversant or involved in field work assistance.
Company let their line maintenance go for so many years the public service commission had to step in with legal mandates. Privately owned, state regulated.

    Advice to Management

Learn how to communicate, learn how to treat people.

I worked at Nyseg full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The pay. Over 15.00 in Binghamton and it's entry level. Can't beat that.

Easy job. Almost impossible to get fired.

    Union benefits.

    Cons

    Short lunches.

    Management expectations.

A lot of women= gossip and office politicss.

Most of our territory is poor rural areas. People who get promoted stick around for a long time so there are very few openings.

    Advice to Management

Average handle time isn't the only important thing. It makes people rush and make stupid mistakes someone else has to fix later.

Too my useless awards Leaves, Stars. How about 3 stars = an hour lunch?

Nametags are silly when we all have ID badges.
