I worked at O'Connor Hospital full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Very friendly environment both to patients and employees. Everyone is willing to go above and beyond for patients needs. The medical is professional yet inviting and soothing to patients, especially those in the emergency room. O'Connor is a small satellite hospital with a fully staffed emergency room, located in the Catskills. The hospital has a med surge floor and rehabilitation unit. As well as specialty services and ambulatory. Basically, it's a one stop shop for the neighboring towns.

    Cons

Need to offer more specialty services, hire more primary care doctors. Upper management needs to be more receptive of the employees.

    Pros

Family atmosphere, caring culture, many long-term, life-long employees who are always ready to help new-comers. awesome food in the cafeteria, Employee Association and hospital sponsored events for employees. Recent improvement to Medical Benefits

    Cons

With the recent transition from Daughters of Charity to Verity Health System, O'Connor is in a "Rebuilding Period", with all that it entails.

    Advice to Management

Too much turnover of upper management

I have been working at O'Connor Hospital full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Use to be a nice lovely Catholic Hospital. Pay is alright. Employees are the best! Great Doctors.

    Cons

Just bought out by a Hedge fund! Unhappy employees, low moral. Management sucks, too many changes and too many cutbacks! Very bad union contract with SEIU, they really screwed the employees and we can't get rid of them. This place is worse than the COUNTY hospital! I would not come here as a patient. Verity all about $$, rather cutback than focus on patient safety! I had plans of retirement with O'Connor but now am currently looking for new opportunity due to uncertainty of hospital.

    Advice to Management

Show a little compassion to your employees. Why don't you ask the employees what would work instead of making the changes, we are the ones that have been there through the years, not you. HR- hire some managers that have experience and common sense! Stop bringing this hospital down!

I worked at O'Connor Hospital full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Close, family like working environment since it's a smaller non profit hospital

    Cons

Due to non profit type of industry, I had to use my own PTO time to cover for holidays. They're not paid for like other places.

I worked at O'Connor Hospital full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Nurses generally have great team work

    Cons

too many changes to a unit every time a new manager or director come aboard
keeps the moral on the unit at a very low point.

    Advice to Management

Dont lay off nurses who have given 25yrs or more of services just to down size and who were cheaper to have employed to suffice to a director who didnt even know any of the nurses history or dedication to the hospital
