I have been working at O'Reilly Auto Parts full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I've been here for 4 years as a Software Developer. I started as an intern and was hired on full time after I graduated and learned more through my internship and job than I ever did at the university.

My managers have always been wonderful. They are supportive in my career goals, constantly asking what they can do better to make my job here more desirable, and always lend a listening ear.

Anytime I offer up an idea for improving the way we do things, I know that it will be heard and taken seriously. I've seen drastic changes through the way the teams work together to get things done that are a direct result of team members stepping up and asking for change to better the company and the way we do things.

There's no greater reward than seeing the impact that we have on our team members and our customers. The ability to build tools to make a team member's job easier is a fantastic challenge and one that is always met with feedback and a sense of accomplishment.

    Cons

The company is growing rapidly, especially at the corporate office. Things get a little tight around here, but they are activity expanding the building to make more room for our growing departments. I don't mind having a space issue if it means the company I am working for is expanding rapidly due to success.

    Advice to Management

Continue to listen to your team members and be supportive of their ideas and aspirations in their careers. The more you empower your team members to step up and offer ideas, the larger the idea pool becomes. The larger the idea pool the better the chance of coming up with the most effective approaches to solving problems.

I worked at O'Reilly Auto Parts part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Friendly working environment and training opportunities were abundant.

    Cons

District management seemed to have no intention of creating a good working climate and competitiveness among employees was "forced" upon us through published statistics posted in the store.

    Advice to Management

Focus on establishing management-employee relationships which create better employees, better customer relations, and an overall improved working environment.

I have been working at O'Reilly Auto Parts full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Lots of opportunities, strong culture

    Cons

Can be micro managed at times. Also sometimes difficult to get ground level solutions in timely manner due to many layers of corporate approval.

I have been working at O'Reilly Auto Parts part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There is always room to advance and move up the ladder, and you can do it quickly too. You also get to meet the district and regional managers fairly often, so you know who you're working for.

    Cons

You're not always guaranteed to work at the location you were hired for. They like to trade employees around quite a bit. Also they're very particular about how you answer phone calls. All of your interactions are very scripted and you can be written up for straying from the script.

    Advice to Management

Focus less on beating the competition in how late the store stays open, and focus more on making the store more efficient. Replace broken machines and hire more people.

    Pros

They pay well, and take care of their employees.

    Cons

I was a Materials Handler. No one talks to anyone else while working; there is no reason to. You just push along until all parts are picked. It wasn't for me.

    Advice to Management

Be a bit more lively, it's like an old folks' home in the offices.

    Pros

Depends on were you work at

    Cons

Upper management that looks for a way to fire you after 10 years of employment and now they don't work for the company.

    Advice to Management

Look at upper management as they don't care for any one under them.
