I have been working at OANDA full-time

    Pros

Tons of smart, quirky, fun people. Reasonable hours. Committed to going agile. Company takes integrity seriously.

    Cons

Sometimes difficult to communicate with many global offices. Could arguably make a larger, positive global impact elsewhere.

    Advice to Management

Senior Management should set a more clear, consistent, and aligned path forward (this is getting better)

    OANDA Response

Thanks for the review. We [senior management] are working very hard to set clearer, more aligned goals. Glad you feel this is getting better. It's a continual work in progress.

I have been working at OANDA full-time

    Pros

Nice workplace, good people, good management, strong executive team and board, compelling strategy and vision. Exciting but not crazy, professional yet fun, challenging but not overwhelming. I like working here and feel like my contributions are meaningful, valued and recognized.

    Cons

It can be a bit disorganized at times, and having multiple offices in various time zones introduces communication challenges. Communications equipment needs improvements, especially in light of how critical it is since we rely on remote communication so much.

    Advice to Management

Fix the communications equipment issues. More generally, let's get rid of the minor impediments and annoyances that conflate together to cause major issues and frustration.

Thanks for the feedback. Totally agree on communication challenges. We've been working hard on improving that. We've partnered with Starleaf for video and Slack for messaging. Hopefully you're ... More

I have been working at OANDA full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They are a global presence and one of the most regulated brokers around, one of the financially strongest too.

They do have a very generous 25 days of leave and good employee benefits. Plus your colleagues there are really a fun bunch to be around.

    Cons

Because of their flat structure, they don't have a proper career path for you to progress on. You just work and have little metrics to gauge whether you deserve a promotion and even then, there are few positions to get promoted to. You get randomly shifted around from your initial duties you signed up for.

They have one of the worst spreads around and participate in very dirty tactics to make money from clients. They would prefer to take care of clients rather than employees.

    Advice to Management

Treasure your employees. Not only the ones you perceive as more "important". No manager can make it without the people under them. Fix a proper career path for employees as it may come as a surprise to you, but not every employee wants to spend his life working to make top management rich who can't be bothered as they are at the top.

    Pros

Relaxed, laid back style of headquarters for a brokerage firm. More of a tech company than brokerage.

    Cons

Lack of infrastructure in relative terms but inability to change and adapt to keep up with competition but seems its reputation continues to hold up

    Advice to Management

Reputation management is key and with one that is already regarded highly, all necessary growth may be reliant for company to create the infrastructue and communication lines on both horizontal and vertical levels

    Pros

People are great, free snacks and coffee

    Cons

I worked at OANDA full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The company's industry reputation is the only thing it has going for it though that's disappearing fast.

    Cons

    K. Duker was an incompetent CEO and needs to be terminated now that he lost that role. He failed miserably as the Managing Director of Singapore (turned a profitable division red) and was rewarded with taking Michael Stumms place. Whoever on the board that made that decision, should also be removed from decision making duties. Under K's "leadership", OANDA increased the cost of trading to their clients by implementing variable spreads, alienated their top traders with pointless requests, terminated most of the senior executive talent and purchased a near bankrupt firm named Currensee. These actions drove their revenue line straight into the ground. Now they’re in a panic and asking the work force to double their efforts and goals while slashing budgets. This is a recipe for failure. Good luck cleaning up K's mess Mr. Eger.

    Advice to Management

Close the Toronto operations facility and move it to the US to be near the new executive team. As long as OANDA remains in Toronto, the corporate culture of "acceptable incompetence" will also remain.
