    Negative Outlook

I worked at OBRA Architects full-time

    Pros

International, both the work and the employees. Most of the projects are speculative or for competitions, so it would be good for someone interested in theory.

    Cons

Paychecks often arrive late or not at all, and you receive no explanation or warning. Long hours and no stability. No health benefits. Total disregard for the well-being of their employees.

The overall tone is pessimistic about contemporary architecture. The principals are very particular about things being done exactly their way. Very unprofessional - be prepared to deal with emotional outbursts and egos. Results in an uninspiring and frustrating work environment.

    Advice to Management

Respect and pay your employees. At the very least, try to pretend to be appreciative of unpaid employees.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at OBRA Architects full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Nice coworkers.
Office is in a great location.
I learned a lot from my coworkers.

    Cons

No results for competitions. Everything was always very rushed and last minute even though they had enough time to complete it. All the projects looked the same.
Principals are very dependent, disorganized. Principals could never make up their minds and complained often. Very arrogant and stubborn. Not a professional environment.
I was not paid or properly trained. I was expected to work full time and on weekends.
    No life outside of office.

    Advice to Management

    Pay interns.

    Pros

The opportunity for growth at OBRA is promising, as they have a lot of projects in China, and has an office an Bejing. The office has a collaborative environment, where you can take charge, pitch in on ideas/proposals and meetings.

    Cons

You start out as an unpaid intern during the 3 month probation period, which is definitely hard to live without a paycheck in New York City. After the probation period, you become an employee, but still without health benefits.

    Advice to Management

The 3 month probation period could be shortened. Either than that, the office a great place and has a collaborative environment.
