I have been working at OHSU full-time

    Pros

They offer great benefits. Plenty of sick and vacation time that adds up quick. Great 401k match (13%!!). free health/dental/vision.

    Cons

I think they offer base salaries lower than they should be. Since the money is all grant based they can't compete with the base salary of an industry job.

    Advice to Management

Its tough to give advice to an academic institution. I do not think they offer low base salaries because they are cheap but because they work with limited resources and can only offer so much. Its a shame that they can't offer a bit more to remain competitive with the industry but it just isn't in the cards.

    Pros

OHSU is a place that allows individuals to complete work that has a dynamic impact on the community. It is a place where passion feeds innovation, and collaboration creates a highly inclusive culture. Hands down it is the employer of choice rich with a diverse workforce that share a common mission.

    Cons

The only con I am able to think of is parking. OHSU has done a great job of providing commuting options for those who work on the hill. The commute is definitely worth it, as once you arrive you are surrounded by like-minded and inspiring teams.
